Loading the Thomas Bankout

In most situations, this equipment is operated as the companion to the Thomas
Conveyor Cart. In this case, the Conveyor Cart is used to load the Bankout, as both
units work in tandem, connected to a "pickup harvester" in the orchard.
1. Approach the rear of a moving Conveyor Cart in the Bankout. Shift transmission of
the Bankout into "Bump". This maintains a sufficient speed to allow maneuvering
power at a slow ground speed, without "lugging" the engine, or pushing the
harvester. Double check to make sure that the dump box is closed.
2. Continue the Bankout towards the rear of the Conveyor Cart, contacting the "paddle"
that supply power to the conveyor mechanism. Transfer of nuts from Cart to Bankout
begins. At this time, turn on the augers in the Bankout dump box, to level and
distribute load.
Note: In certain conditions, it would be desirable during the transfer of nuts from
Conveyor Cart to Bankout, to increase the Bankout auger transfer speed for a more
even distribution in dump box. To achieve desired speed increase, it is necessary to
increase the (RPM) of the engine, without applying an increase in the pushing force
against the Conveyor Cart. To do this, shift into "Bump".
3. As the Bankout becomes loaded, be sure to check and reduce the speed of the
augers to avoid pushing nuts over the rear of the cargo dump box. Watch for the bin
full light on the dash.
Note: Be wary of overhanging limbs during product transfer as these may cause
damage to the Bankout and Conveyor Cart. Maneuver the Bankout as necessary to
avoid collisions.
4. When Bankout is loaded, slow vehicle down in order to disengage from the
Conveyor Cart paddles, effectively stopping the Conveyor Cart unloading chains.
Proceed to unloading area.
This equipment has four wheel steering. Be aware that the rear of the vehicle "swings
wide" during extreme maneuvers. Take this into account when planning travel routes.
Do not allow anyone to climb upon equipment to clear debris or for any other reason,
unless the cargo box is completely lowered, parking brake is locked, and the engine is
shut off! Do not climb on or into Bankout for any reason while in motion.
