8 Fitting Advice

The instructions in this section are for practitioner use only.
The device uses an independent axial spring and Torsion rod to control compressive and
torsional resilience. Typical axial movement should be between 5-8 mm for normal walking.
When used in combination with other devices that have an axial compression that give an overall
shortening effect on the limb, the overall deflection may be excessive. In these cases, a stiffer
axial spring may be appropriate. If the axial spring is changed, function should be checked to
confirm that torsional compliance has been maintained.
Range of rotational movement can be affected by alignment. Excessive torsional movement
coupled with instability in late stance is indicative of insufficient M-L stability and M-L positioning
of the foot in relation to the weight line. If instability is lateral, reposition the foot medially,
conversely if instability is medially, reposition the foot laterally. These adjustments should be
checked before considering a stiffer torsion rod.
