Starting the Engine
Always follow the proper starting procedure described
below.
WARNING
Never run the engine in an enclosed area. The
exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas
that can cause loss of consciousness and lead to
death.
NOTE
The electrical system is designed to prevent starting
the engine with the transmission in gear, unless the
clutch is operated. Shift the transmission into neutral
before starting the engine.
Preliminary Operations
Insert the key in the ignition switch and turn it to the
ON position.
Before starting, check the following items:
• The transmission is in neutral (neutral indicator light
on).
• The engine stop switch is at RUN position.
• The fuel cock is on.
Starting Procedure
To restart a warm engine, follow the procedure for "Hot
Engine".
Cold Engine
1. Pull the choke lever (1) all the way to ON (A).

2. With the throttle slightly open, operate the
kickstarter. Kick from the top of the stroke to the
bottom with a fast, continuous motion.
