To migrate other already-installed
MSA1500 and this new MSA1500 to
active/active:
When adding this new MSA1500 into a SAN with existing active/passive
MSA1500 and/or other storage devices, first migrate all servers and all existing
MSA1500 in the desired active/active SAN segment to active/active; then, install
and upgrade this new MSA1500.
For example, in a large SAN with multiple servers, switches, and storage devices,
all servers in the SAN segment that will access an active/active MSA1500 must be
upgraded to active/active, and all other storage devices accessed by those servers
must also be upgraded to active/active.
1. Go to the MSA1500 web site: http://www.hp.com/go/msa1500cs.
2. In the Software, firmware & drivers page, obtain the following:
• active/active version Support Software CD ISO image
(and then burn the ISO image to a blank CD)
• active/active version controller firmware files or ISO image
3. In the Technical documents page, obtain the following:
• Migration instructions (Windows, Linux, and HP-UX only)
(OpenVMS and Tru64 UNIX are newly supported operating systems, so
there are no already-installed MSA1500 to migrate.)
• Installation guide (May 2006 or later)
• Firmware upgrade guide
4. Review the migration instructions for your operating system environment,
complete all prerequisites, and then, as instructed, migrate all servers and all
existing MSA1500 to active/active.
5. Install and configure the new MSA1500 as described in the installation guide.
When instructed:
• Install MSA1500 components on the servers using the Support Software CD
created in step 2.
• Upgrade the firmware on the MSA using the files obtained in step 2 and the
firmware upgrade guide obtained in step 3.
