Device Description
The Room-Controller Basis Device RC/A 8.1 accepts up to 8 plug-in modules.
It controls their function and communicates via ABB i-bus® EIB. Any module
type can be fitted in each slot. The module inserted is detected automatically
and connected to the input voltage and the power supply.
To connect the device, normally only the 230 V input voltage and the bus con-
nection are necessary. The input voltage can be 1, 2 or 3-phase. The device
1
generates the internal power supply from this input
. Using the module slot M1
... M8, a module can be allocated to a specific phase of the input voltage.
The low shape of the Room-Controller enables it to be used under floors or in
false ceilings. Manual operation permits immediate checking of the module
function and wiring as soon as the supply voltage is connected - even in the
unprogrammed state.
The device safeguards its internal power supply with a 12 V DC auxiliary
power supply in addition to the input voltage. In this way the device can con-
tinue to operate on the failure of the input voltage.
If the bus power supply fails, the internal device functions continue to operate
so that unrestricted operation continues to be provided.
For modules with 24 V DC input voltage (e.g. 24 V DC shutter actuators) the
device provides a plug-in screw type terminal device to ease the direct wiring
of the input voltage to the modules.

In 115 V mains electricity networks, at least 2 phases are necessary so that
the device can generate the internal power supply. For this reason, on single-
phase connection to 115 V mains electricity networks, the 12 V DC auxiliary
power supply is necessary.
