OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
For information on the engine and the battery (if sup-
plied), read the relevant owner manuals.
NOTE – The number which precedes each paragraph
links the references in the text to the respective illus-
trations (listed on page iii and following pages).
1. COMPLETE ASSEMBLY
NOTE The machine can be supplied with some parts al-
ready assembled.
WARNING!
Unpacking and completing the assem-
bly should be done on a flat and stable surface, with
enough space for moving the machine and its packag-
ing, always making use of suitable equipment.
Disposal of the packaging should be done in accord-
ance with the local regulations in force.
1.1 Assembling the handle
Return the handle (1) to the working position and secure it
to the side chassis supports using the supplied nuts and
bolts (2) as illustrated.
The handle (1) can be height-adjusted in three different po-
sitions by inserting the pins (3) in one of the three pairs of
holes on the brackets.
The rings (4) on the levers (5) must be screwed on so they
keep  the  handle  (1)  securely  fixed  without  requiring  too
much effort to tighten or release them.
Tighten the levers (5) after adjusting.
Tighten the nut (8) to secure the spiral (7).
• Manual ignition models
• Electric key ignition models
Fasten the starter cable (6) to the guide spiral (7).
1.2 Assembling the grass catcher
Insert the frame (1) in the fabric section of the grass catcher
(2) and snap on all the plastic sections (3), using a screw-
driver as illustrated.
1.3 Battery connection
• Electric key ignition models
Connect the battery cable to the general wiring connector
on the lawnmower.
• Electric push-button ignition models
Follow all the instructions provided in the engine Instruction
Manual.

2. CONTROLS DESCRIPTION

NOTE The meanings of the symbols on controls are ex-
plained in the previous pages.
2.1 Throttle lever
The throttle is controlled by the lever (1).
Lever positions are indicated on the relevant plate.
Some models have a fixed speed engine with no need for
a throttle.
2.2 Engine brake lever / cutting means
The cutting means brake is controlled by the lever (1) which
must be held against the handle during ignition and during
lawnmower operations.
The engine stops when the lever is released.
2.3 Drive lever
On power-driven models, push the lever (1) toward the
handle for forward movement.
The  lawnmower  stops  moving  forward  when  the  lever  is
released.
The  engine  must  always  be  ignited  with  the  drive  disen-
gaged.
2.4 Cutting height adjustment
To adjust cutting height, press the button (1) and lift or push
the chassis using the handle (2) to the desired position, in-
dicated by the numbered scale (3).
DO THIS WHEN THE CUTTING MEANS IS STATIONARY.
NOTE To prevent damage to the grass turf, use position
«1» only on perfectly flat, compact and level land.
2.5 Discharge selection lever (For DML models
only)
This lever (1) has two positions:
«A» =   f or rear discharge without collection or with cut grass
in the grass catcher.
"B" =   f or  mulching  or  (if  provided)  side  discharge  without
collection.
To  switch  from  one  position  to  another,  slightly  lift  the  le-
ver  (1)  and  move  it  to  the  desired  position  so  it  is  locked
by the stop (2).
NOTE If switching from one position to the next is difficult,
the problem may be caused by residual grass accumulated
in the sliding guides and therefore, the chassis interior (see
4.4) must be washed and cleaned.

3. GRASS CUTTING

NOTE
This machine can be used to mow lawns in a
number of different ways; before starting work, prepare the
machine based on how the lawn is to be mowed.
DO THIS WHEN THE ENGINE IS OFF.
• Only for DML models:
3.1a Preparation for grass cutting and collection in
the grass catcher:
– Move the discharge selection lever (1) to position «A».
–    O n  models  with  a  side  discharge:  make  sure  that  the
side  discharge  guard  (2)  is  lowered  and  blocked  by  the
safety lever (3).
– Lift the rear discharge guard (4) and fasten the grass
catcher (5) correctly as shown in the illustration.
3.1b Preparation for mowing and rear discharge
of grass:
– Move the discharge selection lever (1) to position «A».
–      On  models  with  a  side  discharge:  make  sure  that  the
side  discharge  guard  (2)  is  lowered  and  blocked  by  the
safety lever (3).
3.1c Preparation for mowing and mulching
– Move the discharge selection lever (1) to position «B».
–    O n  models  with  a  side  discharge:  make  sure  that  the
side  discharge  guard  (2)  is  lowered  and  blocked  by  the
safety lever (3).
