Read through the entire instruction before work is begun.
Items in illustrations in this instruction may differ from
the model being worked on. The illustrations are used
for different instructions and may therefore vary between
engine models. The essential information is correct.

Installation instructions
notE! Coolant hoses and welding flange for the NOx
sensor are not included in this kit. Non-Volvo hoses are
not allowed.
Installation of the nox sensor
1. Mount the control unit of the NOx sensor (A) in a ve-
hicle using flange screws (3) and flange nuts (2).
See Figure 2A.
notE! Install the NOx sensor near the exhaust pipe so
that the cable, length 608 mm (23.94''), can be installed
with a loop to compensate the movement of the exhaust
pipe during operations.
2. Install the NOx sensor (1) in the exhaust pipe using
NOx-Boss. The drawing of the NOx-Boss is shown in
the installation manual. Tighten the hexagonal nut (B)
by hand. Then, tighten the nut (B) by a wrench. Hold
the sensor by hand while tightening it to prevent wires
from twisting. Allowed twisting angle of the cable is 180°.
tightening torque 50 nm (37 lbf.ft.). See figure 2B.
3. Connect the cable (C) to the control unit (A). Secure
the cable 100 mm (3.94'') from the control unit. The safety
loop must remain. See figure 2A.
The NOx sensor is CE marked according to the EU Direc-
tive 94/9/EG.
Installation of the temperature sensor
notE! Dropping a sensor on the floor might damage the
function of the sensor. The sensor and cable are resistant
to gasoline, lubricant, engine oil, brake fluid, antifreeze,
battery fluid and urea solution.
1. Insert the temperature sensor (4) into the muffler inlet
(D) and tighten the hex nut. See figure 2A and figure 3.
tightening torque 45 nm ± 3 (33 lbf. ft. ± 3.6 lbf.ft.)
2. Secure the cable with cable ties to avoid abrasion.
notE! The cable must not be bent more than 90° at the
rear of the sensor.

Solenoid Valve, coolant
notE! The solenoid valve must be installed vertically with
the solenoid on top. The direction of flow is marked on the
solenoid valve by an arrow. If the flow is connected in the
wrong direction the contents of the urea tank will be heated
constantly. This will affect exhaust emissions.
Installation of the Solenoid Valve
1. Install the solenoid valve bracket (8) with the solenoid
valve (7) on the tank using the screws (9) or the screws
supplied with the tank. Connect the solenoid valve to the
electrical wire from the main harness ACM2 (After Treat-
ment Control Module 2). See figure 4A.
3. Connect the coolant hoses using straight or angled con-
nectors (5 and 6) and hose clamps (15). See figure 4B.
•
On the engine, install the gasket (14) and the hose
nipple/engine return (13). Install the sealing ring/en-
gine return (11), the banjo nipple/engine supply (10)
and the hollow screw/engine supply (12). Tighten the
hollow screw gently. Install the hose clamps (15). See
Figure 4C and Figure 1.
notE! Refer to the installation manual for other connec-
tions and installations. If the procedure according to the
installation manual is not followed, this may result in a fine
or other penalty. Observe therefore national legislation and
regulations regarding emission control.
