• NaNO
, 21.25 g
3
• Ultra pure water, 500 mL
1. Put on the personal protective equipment identified in the safety data sheet (MSDS/SDS).
2. Rinse the volumetric flask with ultra pure water three times.
3. Add approximately 21.25 g of NaNO
4. Add 100 mL of ultra pure water to the volumetric flask.
5. Shake the volumetric flask until the powder is fully dissolved.
6. Add ultra pure water to the 500-mL mark.
7. Shake the volumetric flask to fully mix the solution.
Note: The approximate shelf life of the prepared solution is 3 months.
3.7.3 Rinse and fill the calibration standard bottle
Add a small quantity of calibration standard to the calibration standard bottle. Swirl the bottle to rinse
the bottle, then discard the calibration standard. Fill the calibration standard bottle with 10-mg/L (10-
ppm) Sodium Chloride (NaCl) standard.
Note: Not all analyzers have a calibration bottle. The calibration standard bottle has a label with a yellow stripe. A
yellow "CAL" label is attached to the tubing for the calibration standard bottle.
If prepared solution is available, go to the next section.
If prepared solution is not available, prepare 10-mg/L NaCl standard as follows. All volumes and
quantities used to prepare the calibration standard must be precise.
Items supplied by the user:
• Volumetric flask (2x), 500 mL, Class A
• NaCl, 1.272 g
• Ultra pure water, 500 mL
• 1–10 mL TenSette pipet and tips
1. Prepare 500 mL of 1-g/L NaCl standard as follows:
a. Rinse the volumetric flask with ultra pure water three times.
b. Add 1.272 g NaCl to the volumetric flask.
c. Add 100 mL of ultra pure water to the volumetric flask.
d. Shake the volumetric flask until the powder is fully dissolved.
e. Add ultra pure water to the 500-mL mark.
f. Shake the volumetric flask to fully mix the solution.
2. Prepare 500 mL of 10-mg/L NaCl standard as follows:
a. Rinse the other volumetric flask with ultra pure water three times.
b. Use a pipet to add 5 mL of the 1-g/L calibration standard to the volumetric flask. Put the pipet
in the flask to add the solution.
c. Add ultra pure water to the 500-mL mark.
d. Shake the volumetric flask to fully mix the solution.
Note: The approximate shelf life of the prepared solution is 3 months.
Section 4 Preparation for use
Install the analyzer bottles and stir bar. Refer to the operations manual for the startup procedure.
