6.2

Balancer

The balancer is equipped with a brake which should be in operation as long as
the hose and nozzle, after the disconnection from the vehicle exhaust pipe, are
moving horizontally along the floor.
6.2.1

Checking the braking function

See figure 23. Check that the brake is disconnected 0.1–1.0 m before the
nozzle is leaving the floor and is hoisted up vertically (see figure 23, A). The
brake disconnects when the cord is pressing a button on the balancer drum
(see figure 23, B). If the brake does not disconnect at the right moment, take
following measures:
a) Check and adjust the measure 10–12 mm on the adjusting nut on the reverse
side of the balancer (see figure 23, C).
b) Move the balancer cord stop and the cord fitting in the hose coupling slightly
upwards or downwards.
WARNING!
The exhaust hose should return to its normal position at an even and steady
pace. Check this function and, if necessary, adjust the balancers lifting power
(see 6.2. Balancer).
6.2.2

Adjusting the lifting power of the balancer

See figure 24. 1. When adjusting the lifting power of the balancer, it is
important to check that the amount of spare line is correct. For 4"–6" dia. hose
3 turns are recommended. This length can be altered by winding line on or off
the conical drum on the balance unit. Move the line stop and hose accordingly
(follow checking procedure in point 4, figure 24).
Increasing lifting power
2. Pull approximately 2 metres of line off the balancer.
3. Hold the block still and wind on a couple of turns of line.
Reducing lifting power
2. Pull a little line off the balancer.
3. Hold the block still and unwind a couple of turns of line.
Checking of procedure
The hose should automatically return to its normal position at an even and
steady pace. To check, pull the hose to its maximum extent and release.
The balancer should gently wind the hose in.
