Lawn Care tips
Some tips to help you keep your
lawn looking healthy and growing
evenly.
Mowing
A lawn is made up of various types
of grass. If you cut your lawn
frequently, then those types of
grass that develop strong roots will
predominate and form a compact
turf surface. If you seldom cut the
lawn, then the high-growing types
of grass will take over, together
with other weeds (e.g. clover,
daisies ...).
A lawn should normally be kept at
a height of approx. 4-5 cm. It
should be cut back by no more
than 1/3 of its height at any one
time, i.e. cut it back to the normal
height when it has grown to 7-8
cm. Whenever possible, do not cut
the grass to less than 4 cm,
otherwise the turf could suffer
damage during dry periods.
Particularly long grass (for
example, after you have been away
on holiday) should be cut back to
its normal length in several stages.
Mulching
When the grass is being mown it is
cut into short strips (approx. 1 cm)
which remain lying on the lawn.
The lawn thus conserves many
nutrients. For the best results, the
lawn should always be kept short,
see also the section "Mowing".
Fertiliser
Your lawn is continually
consuming nutrients in the soil.
These nutrients can be replaced in
the form of fertilisers.
Only apply fertiliser to the lawn
during the growth period between
April and September. Observe the
instructions for use provided with
the fertiliser.
Scarifying
Vertical incisions are made into
the turf. In so doing, moss, weeds
and dead grass or roots are
removed. The lawn is aerated and
is more able to absorb rain and
nutrients, thereby encouraging
better growth. The best time for
scarifying your lawn is during
April and May.
Watering
A lawn requires a lot of water.
During dry periods it is best to
soak the lawn 1-2 times per week
rather than to spray it more
frequently with smaller amounts of
water. Use a sprinkler that
distributes the water evenly over
the entire surface of the lawn.
Transporting
Danger
This series is not licensed for use
on public roads.
Moving the unit over short
distances
Danger
Small objects can be hit/ thrown up
by the cutting blades when in
rotation and cause damage. Turn
the cutting blades off before
moving the unit.
Transporting the lawn mower on
a vehicle
Warning
Transporting the unit incorrectly
can cause damage to property.
Transport the unit on a suitable
vehicle. Use a suitable loading
ramp and push the unit by hand
onto the transport vehicle. Make
sure the unit is adequately secured
and cannot move around.
Beware of the hazard which can
be caused to the environment
through fuel leakage.
The unit must not be tipped for
transport purposes.
• Park the transport vehicle
nearby
• Set the loading ramp up
• Allow the engine to idle and
push the unit by hand onto the
vehicle (disengage the gears
on units with hydrostatic
drive)
8
• Turn the engine off, remove the
ignition key and engage the
parking break.
• Secure the unit to ensure it does
not move around
Cleaning / Maintenance
(general) and deck
removal / installation
Danger
Risk of injury through accidental
starting of the engine.
Protect yourself from injury.
Before carrying out any
maintenance work on this unit:
• Place the PTO in the ON
position
• Switch off the engine
• Engage the parking break
• Remove the ignition key
• Wait until all moving parts have
come to a complete standstill
• Remove the wire from the spark
plug to prevent an accidental
starting of the engine
• Allow the engine and all the hot
parts of the tractor to cool
down.
Additional information for when
working on the cutting blades
Danger
Danger of injury through sharp
cutting blades
Wear safety gloves.
Turning one cutting blade of units
with more than one blade can
cause the other blades to move.
Cleaning the unit
Warning
Danger of damage to unit
Do not use a steam jet to clean the
unit
• If possible clean the unit
immediately after you have
finished mowing
• Place the tractor on a level
surface
