Diamond Truing Tool Familiarisation

Using the Diamond Truing Tool:
1. Fix the Diamond Truing Tool to the Support Arm as shown in the picture, with the Diamond
Truing Tip (3) flush with the Grindstone surface
2. Tighten the Fixing Knobs (2)
3. Run the Whetstone Sharpener and use the back end of the Truing Tool Square Tube (5) to
control the rate of material being removed
Note: Start at the edge of the Grindstone and slowly work across the stone, ideally take
approximately 30¬–60 seconds to carry out one pass across.
Note: For a deeper removal, make more smaller depth 30–60 second passes across the
Grindstone rather than fewer, deeper passes. More smaller depth passes will create an even
surface.

Using the Turning Gouge Jig:
• Suitable for sharpening gouging hand tools
Note: The jig is in two parts with the point only resting in the groove of the part connected to
the Jig Mounting Bar. Once correctly set, the tool being sharpened can be rotating the point in
the Point Groove (2)
1. Ensure whetstone sharpener is switched off
2. Assemble jig loosely as shown in image
3. Make adjustments to the jig angle on the Jig Mounting Bar (7), Point Angle Adjustment (3),
Height of the tool in the Tool Mounting (4) so that the tool is presented to the Sharpening
Point (6) at the right angle to sharpen the blade
4. Rotate the jig carefully ensuring the Point is always tensioned slightly against the Point
Groove (2) as you sharpen the circular blade of the gouging tool
Note: The jig is designed in two parts so the operator can adjust the angle and position by
hand for different shape and size gouging tools and also be further quenched to prevent
damage to the tool metal.

Puts an even, slight radius onto a hand plane iron, especially good for scrub and jack plane
irons. Camber for improved shearing action.
Plane Camber Jig Familiarisation
1. Camber Control Knob

Using the Plane Camber Jig:
1. Loosen both Blade Clamp Tightening Knobs (2) and insert the planer blade into the Blade
Clamp (3), ensuring the centre slot of the plane blade lines up with the Camber Hinge (6),
then tighten both Blade Clamp Tightening Knobs
Note: A square may be useful to ensure correct fitting of the plane blade in the Blade Clamp. It
is important that the blade be at 90° to the Support Arm for an even camber on the blade.
2. Slide the Plane Camber Jig on to the Support Arm with the Support Arm passing through
both of the Support Arm Holes (5)
Note: The Support Arm Holes are fitted with one to the left side of the Camber Hinge, which
is designed so the jig does not clash with Support Arm vertical posts while in use. Ensure the
plane blade is clamped correctly so the bevel edge to be sharpened protrudes out the correct
side with the Support Arm Holes to the left.
3. Use the Grinding Angle Set-Up Jig (see 'Using the Grinding Angle Set-Up Jig') and the
adjustments on the Support Arm to set up the desired bevel angle
4. Set the desired camber by turning both Camber Control Knobs to the desired depth, which
will act as a stopper on either side of the jig
5. With the Whetstone Sharpener running, begin sharpening with the blade on the left side of
the Grindstone and slide the jig from left to right, applying and alternating pressure to the
Camber Control Plate (7) by pressing the plate down at the Camber Control Spring (4) points
Note: To achieve an even camber on the plane blade, when the jig moves across the
Grindstone, apply pressure to the opposing side of the direction the jig is travelling. For
example, when the jig moves to the right apply pressure to the left Camber Control Spring
point, then apply pressure to the right Camber Control Spring point when the jig is moving
to the left.
IMPORTANT: Be careful not to move too far to the left while grinding so that the jig does not
leave the Support Arm.
6. Once the desired amount of bevel edge and camber has been grinded, use the Leather
Honing Wheel to remove the burr and polish the bevel edge
Note: Keep the top side of the blade flat when using the honing wheel. Alternatively, a high grit,
flat whetstone can also be used to remove the burr. It is important not to create a camber on
the top side of the plane blade.
