The warranties made by MSA with respect to the product are voided if the product is not used in accordance with the
instructions in this manual. Choice and use of filtering devices are beyond the control of MSA but are the responsi-

Description and Ordering Information
The devices described in this manual are in accordance with Directive 89/686/EEC.
This instruction manual applies to the following MSA AUER Escape Respirators according to DIN 58647-7.

Selection and Use
Escape respirators are filtering devices for self-rescue only. Selection and use are the responsibility of the user.
The following must be observed.
The MiniSCAPE and MSR 1 protect against organic gases and vapors with a boiling point above 65 °C, inorganic
gases and vapors, acid and basis gases and vapors. The MSR 2 in addition protects against toxic particles.
Protection is limited against low boiling compounds, i.e. gases and vapors having a boiling point below 65 °C and
at high toxic concentrations.
There is no protection against carbon monoxide or oxygen deficiency. Escape respirators do not supply oxygen.
Escape respirators must be selected according to their nominal service times based on the expected escape
times.

Applications
Escape Respirators are designed for one-time use. During escape, stay calm, do not panic. Because of the
breathing resistance inherent to escape respirators, especially inexperienced users may encounter breathing diffi-
culties.
3.1 MSA AUER MiniSCAPE
The MiniSCAPE can be carried along in the overall pocket or it can be clipped to the belt or the waistband of a
pair of trousers. Donning: see Fig. 1– 5.
Attention! Escape respirators have limited applications for persons wearing dentures.
3.2 MSA AUER MSR 1 / MSA AUER MSR 2
The MSR 1 and MSR 2 can be carried along on e.g. a trousers waistband or belt. To don, open carrier (tear of
red band), take out MSR 1, resp. MSR 2, place mask onto face, pull harness over head. Tighten harness (Fig. 6).
Leave dangerous area.
Attention! Persons with beards, long sideburns anomalies in the face seal area must expect that they will not
achieve a proper facepiece-to-face fit. Thes may also occur with extreme face shapes and face sizes.

Maintenance and Storage
During the storage life, MSA AUER Escape Respirators are maintenance free. The end of the storage life is indi-
cated on the devices (hour-glass symbol). Maintenance work must only be performed by MSA AUER or author-
ized service centers.
MSA AUER Escape Respirators must be stored in cool, dry and clean ambient air. Do not open carrier prior to
use. Respirators that are damaged or where the carrier has been opened must be replaced.
