6.4 Hydraulic connection / technical safety measures
For the hydraulic connection of the heating installation and any water heaters, in particular with regard to the
technical safety devices like safety valves, expansion tanks, etc., the installation must comply with the technical
rules, as well as the current standards and provisions in the country of installation.
If the boilers are installed in a terrace boiler room or at the highest point of the heating installation, they must be
fitted with additional safety equipment (like water loss safety devices). Comply with the current local safety
provisions (see chapter 4.1) and the current local safety provisions.
For a renovation, sediment removal from the existing installation must be done. We also recommend
using a sediment separator (also see the water quality paragraph).
The maximum operating pressure of the boiler and the maximum operating temperature are stated on the
identification plate and in chapter 4.1 of this datasheet.
The boiler does not require a minimum water flow rate.
The "2/3 tapping" hydraulic connection delivered with the boiler allows the Varjet boiler to be adapted to the
installation hydraulic configuration so optimising the performance level. This hydraulic connection allows the
boiler to be connected in a two or three tapping configuration.
6.4.1
The characteristics of the water used, from commissioning, and throughout the boiler life shall comply with the
following values:
Filling water
- When filling a new installation, or when it has been completely drained, the filling water must comply with the
following characteristics: TH < 10°f.
Top up water
- A large addition of raw water will lead to large scale deposits that can cause overheating and then ruptures. It
must be subject to special monitoring, the presence of a water meter is mandatory. The top up water must
correspond to the following parameter: TH < 1°f.
Mains water
Mains water can give rise to corrosion phenomena related to the acidity of the medium, the presence of oxygen
and the presence of mixed metals. To avoid these phenomena, mains water must be treated to comply with the
following parameters:
- PH: from 8.3 to 9.5
- oxygen scavenger: in excess.
The chemical products used must be subject to precise and rigorous use. We recommend the use of companies
specialising in water treatment questions; they will be able to offer:
- The appropriate treatment for the installation characteristics,
- A monitoring and guaranteed result contract.
When renovating old boiler rooms, before installing the new boilers, it is essential to provide for removal of
sediment from the installation.
Main actions to be taken :
- In renovation, before installing the new boilers, complete sediment clearance of the installation must be done.
- Monitor the top up water consumption, which is a considerable source of dissolved salts and oxygen.
Water meters must be placed to determine exactly what treatments are to be used (product dosing for
example).
- Remove the dissolved gases in the water using gas extractors at the boiler outlet and on the 2/3 tapping
hydraulic connection if the boiler is connected in 2 tapping configuration.
- Install a closed expansion tank.
- Install a series mounted sediment trap, as close as possible to the boiler primary return, and a filtering
system.
- Chemical treatment of the installation filling water and top up water.
- Regular water quality checks by sampling.
