maintain the setpoint value chosen by the user. If the system
served is demanding a fl ow rate that makes it impossible to
maintain the setpoint value using just one pump, the HERTZ
ONE controller triggers the second motor-driven pump, which
is powered directly by the single-phase mains.
The controller will continue to modulate the inverter-control-
led pump to keep pressure at the set value, evaluating sys-
tem pressure conditions in realtime so that it can go back to
running just one motor-driven pump (the only pump control-
led by the inverter).
The HERTZ ONE controller will continue to modulate the in-
GB
verter-controlled motor-driven pump, evaluating conditions
to keep as few pumps working as possible where conditions
allow.
The HERTZ ONE controller for the CABINET BOOSTER set has
the following functions:
− Starting and control of motor-driven pump n° one at vari-
able speed.
− Starting and control of second motor-driven pump, with
mains-powered relay.
− Start and stop pushbuttons for each motor-driven pump
with relevant indicator lights (see HERTZ ONE manual,
chap. 8).
− Pushbuttons for setting system parameters. (see HERTZ
ONE manual, chap. 8).
− Four-digit display of instantaneous system parameters:
(see HERTZ ONE manual, tab. 9.1.).
− Four-digit display of parameters to be set (see HERTZ
ONE manual, table 9.2.1.).
− Protection of motor-driven pumps with type of alarm trig-
gered indicated in the alarm log (see HERTZ ONE manu-
al, table 9.2.3.).
− Hours of operation of each motor-driven pump checked,
with maintenance indicator.
− Automatic system stop, after one minute, when fl ow rate
drops to zero litres/min.
− Automatic restart with reference pressure reduced by
0.5 bar to avoid frequent starting.
− Fuse-protected HERTZ ONE unit.
− Complete with master disconnector with door lock.
For function keys and programming, see HERTZ ONE man-
ual, sect. 8 and 9.
OPTIONAL FUNCTIONS: control and monitoring of HERTZ ONE
unit by an independent PC using PC VISION SW package.

11. STARTING

11.1. PRIMING

Operation to be performed with electricity
supply to the set completely cut off.
Set with fl ooded suction (liquid drawn from a tank higher
than the pump's suction port)
1. Open the isolating valves on the set's suction line and
close the discharge ones, remove the hexagonal cap
on the two pumps' motor mount (pump manual PART 2
chapter 7 fi g. 3).
2. With the aid of a funnel with a fl exible extension, fi ll the
pump with water to overfl owing.
3. Close by screwing the hexagonal cap back on until it is
locked tight to prevent air getting in.
4. Areas that have become wet as a result of leaks or re-

Set with suction lift (liquid drawn from a tank lower than the
pump's suction port).
Proceed as described above.
WARNING
NB: it is worth remembering that suction lift
(installations with liquid source lower than
pump) decreases as altitude and temperature
increase. These characteristics, based on the
pump's NPSH, must be allowed for when sizing
the system so as to avoid problems such as
cavitation or insuffi cient effi ciency: the NPSH
available in the system must be greater than
the NPSH required of the pump.

11.2. STARTING THE SET

Check all electrical and plumbing connec-
tions. Make sure the set is full of water.
1. Open the valve on the suction manifold and valve
installed upstream of the set, pump discharge valves
open, valve downstream of the set closed. Turn the
selector on the Hertz One board to "I" and the display will
show the instantaneous system pressure P.00.0 and all
LEDs are unlit.
2. Enter the pressure setpoint and check the other
parameters using the
One manual, sect. 9.1;
NB: the set has a factory setting as indicated in the test
report supplied.
3. Make sure the unit is operating properly as indicated in
the Hertz One manual, sect. 9.2.2..
4. Table 9.2.3. in the Hertz One manual features the various
alarm codes.
5. Check the air pressure value for the expansion tank
by means of a pressure gauge for tanks: the pressure
reading must be 0.3 to 0.5 bar lower than the pump
starting pressure.
6. Open the isolating valve downstream of the set fully - this
causes the inverter-controlled pump to start and, where
necessary, the second pump will also start to generate
the correct system pressure.
7. To switch the set off instantly, press the pump 1 STOP
and pump 2 STOP keys, and turn selector QS1 to "0".
WARNING
DO NOT RUN THE SET FOR ANY LENGTH OF
TIME WITH THE DISCHARGE PORT CLOSED AS
THIS MAY LEAD TO PUMP DAMAGE (DUE TO
OVERHEATING INSIDE).

12. RUNNING AND MAINTENANCE

12.1. GENERAL CRITERIA

Any maintenance or repair work must always be
performed with the power supply disconnected.
Such work must be carried out by qualified per-
sonal only: failure to comply with this rule will void
the warranty.
It is the installer's responsibility to test the system once the
pressure booster set is installed.
The user is responsible for making sure the set continues
to run effi ciently and for its inspection at regular intervals,
even where an installer or other body is delegated the task,
and must arrange:
– routine inspection.
