Adjust the pressure of the thumbscrew (3) so that the wire feed rolls run
smoothly on the wire when it is stopped at the contact tip
Feed roller types
V-groove: Typically used for solid and flux-cored wires, which are relatively easy to push through the liner owing
to their stiff and hard surfaces.
U-groove: Typically used for aluminium, magnesium and other soft metals. The surface of soft wires can easily
be damaged and oval-shaped by feed rollers, which may negatively affect wire feeding.
U-groove cerated: Typically used for flux-cored wires (Innershield) in large diameters because their tubular
shape and flux can make them soft. Their graphited surface makes it difficult to feed the wire using a smooth V
groove feed roller. U groove cerated feed rollers have teeth that dig into the surface and force the wire up.
Always start with the smooth U groove feed roller because cerated feed rollers make burrs on the wire and
cause blocking of liner and contact tip.
Smooth surface: Typical use: smooth upper feed roller combined with V groove lower feed roller for ø 0.6mm Fe,
Fe Flux and CrNi wires. This give optimal feeding of such a thin wire.
Needle bearing: For very long arc time and heavy-duty applications (many meters of wire for a long time).
Advantages: No heating (friction heating) of feed roller and steel axle, and hub on plastic feed roller does not
melt and stick to the steel axle.

Be aware that the wire feed is affected by several
factors that can influence the wire roll pressure.
Eg.
• The length of the welding hose (3-4m is optimal
as the resistance in the wire liner increases with
longer hoses).
• Wire liner (1) must match the wire type.
• Wire roll groove (4) must match thread type.
P
• Wire guide (2) and capillary tube (1) must fit wire
P
roll.
