The sensitivity is adjusted with the potentiometer (type: 270°).
Clockwise rotation: to teach mode; counterclockwise rotation: to run mode.
Turn the potentiometer clockwise to teach mode until yellow LED begins blinking. Align
sender and receiver and observe lightbar for alignment quality. As long as lightbar has
a response, the system can be returned to run mode.
Turn the potentiometer counterclockwise to run mode until yellow LED stops blinking.
The yellow LED should remain lit. To verify, block lightbeam and LED will turn off.
Unblock lightbeam the LED will come on again.
We recommended setting the potentiometer to "Maximum".
Please refer to the enclosed operating instructions for the IO-Link photoelectric sensor
for information about adjusting the IO-Link sensing range.
The sensor is adjusted and ready for operation.
Alarm / Health output
The sensor (HSE18) features a pre-failure notification output ("Q2" in connection dia‐
gram [B], if the alarm option is selected), which issues a notification if the signal
strength of the light being received is not sufficient. Possible causes: Sensor is conta‐
minated, sensor is out of alignment. In the good state: LOW (U
contaminated: HIGH (>+U
Health output: The sensor (HSE18) features a health status notification output ("Q2" in
connection diagram [B], if the health option is selected), which issues a notification if
the signal strength of the light being received is sufficient. Possible causes, if the signal
strength is not sufficient: Sensors are contaminated, sensors are out of alignment, or
cable is damaged. In the good state: HIGH (>+U
the event of cable interruption: LOW (U
Time types
Time types: HSE18 with optional On-delay or Off-Delay adjustment: t0 = no time delay,
t1 = time delay when object is detected, t2 = time delay when no object is detected.
The time setting can be selected using the potentiometer according to A.
Timer stages can be set from 0 to 2 seconds.
Test input
Test input: The HSE18 sensor features a test input ("TE" or "Test" on the connection
diagram [B]), which can be used to check that the sensor is functioning correctly: If
female cable connectors with LED indicators are used, you must ensure that the TE is
assigned accordingly.
There must be no object between the sender and receiver; activate the test input (see
the connection diagram [B], TE at 0 V). The send LED is shut down or the detection of
an object is simulated. Refer to Graphics C and G to check the function. If the switching
output fails to behave in accordance with Graphic C, check application conditions. See
section Fault diagnosis.
The Troubleshooting table indicates measures to be taken if the sensor stops working.
