Keep passers-by away. Children, bystanders, and observers should be restricted from entering
the work area for their own protection. The barrier must extend a suitable distance from the
user of the tool.
Unplug and store all unused power tools. A power tool should never be left unattended while
connected to the power source. They must be kept in a suitable place, away from children. This
includes battery chargers.
Do not overload or misuse the tool. All tools are designed for a purpose and are limited to what
they are capable of. Do not attempt to use (or adapt in any way) a power tool for an application
for which it is not intended. Select an appropriate tool for the size of the job. Overloading a tool
will result in tool failure and user injury. This covers the use of accessories.
Dress appropriately. Loose clothing, long hair, and jewelry are dangerous because they can
become entangled in moving machinery. This can also cause parts of the body to come into
contact with the machine. Clothing should be tight tting, with long hair tied back. No jewelry
or ties. Footwear must be completely closed and have a non-slip sole.
Wear personal protective equipment (PPE). Dust, noise, vibration and chips can be dangerous if
not properly protected. If the work involved in the power tool generates dust or smoke, wear a
dust mask. It must be protected against vibration in the hand, caused by the operation of some
tools for longer periods. Wear vibration reducing gloves and allow long breaks between uses.
Protect yourself against dust and shavings by wearing approved safety glasses or a face shield.
These are some of the most common hazards and precautions, however always nd out what
hazards are associated with the machine / work process and wear the most suitable protective
equipment available.
Do not breathe contaminated air. If the job generates dust or gases, connect the machine (if
possible) to a local or remote extraction system. Working outdoors can also help if possible.
Move the machine as indicated. If the machine is manual, do not carry it by the power cable. If
the product is heavy, hire a second or third person to move it safely or use a mechanical device.
Always refer to the instructions for the correct method.
Do not overstretch. Extending your body too far can result in loss of balance and falling. This
could be from a height or on a machine and will cause injury.
Maintain your tools properly. A well-maintained tool will do the job safely. Replace damaged or
missing parts immediately with parts original from the manufacturer. As appropriate, keep
blades sharp, moving parts clean and oiled, handles clean, and emergency devices working.
