@ This unit should be handled with
care.
Rough
treatment
or shocks
can
damage the internal mechanisms.
Do notuse orstore the unitin places
which are:
e Extremely hot (such as acar parked
in the sun)
Extremely cold
Very humid
Very dusty
Subject to strong vibrations (near
machinery, etc.)
Operating the unit near a radio or
TV may cause interference.
If this happens, move the unit away.
Take extreme care when using the
unit at the beach.
Sand and water may damage the unit
if they get inside.
Avoid using the unit outside in the
rain or snow, unless well covered.
When using headphones:
Keep the volume low to avoid hearing
damage.
When not using the unit for a long
period of time:
Remove the cassette tape, as it may
become stuck to the head or other
parts and cause damage.
Take care with the volume setting:
Turn the volume all the way down
before starting playback, then turn it
up gradually during playback to the
desired level.
With conventional tape machines, the
initial noise level (hiss) serves as a
guide to initial volume level setting.
DAT, however, has virtually no noise
or hiss, so there is a tendency to set
the initial volume too high. When actual
playback starts, the speakers
(or
headphones) may be damaged, and
the very loud sound can damage
hearing.
@
Oncondensation:
If left in a room made warm and damp
by a heater, tiny water droplets may
form inside the unit. This is known as
condensation. If the unit is left or
used as is, the tape may become
tangled inthe mechanism, resulting
in damage to either the tape or the
unit or both.
Although this unit is equipped with
safety features to prevent this, it is
recommended that tapes not be left in
the unit whether or not there is any
possibility of condensation.
Should condensation occur: only
the STOP/EJECT button will operate.
If condensation
occurs
during
operation, the CAUTION indicator will
flash and operation will stop. Should
this happen, press the STOP/EJECT
button, remove the cassette, andleave
the unit with the cassette holder open
for approximately 2 hours.
Care and maintenance
Clean the cabinet and panels with a
soft, dry cloth. Avoid strong solvents
such as alcohol or paint thinner as
they may damage the finish.
Head cleaning
If the head drum becomes dirty, noise
or sound dropouts may occur.
Be
sure to use a DAT head cleaning tape
regularly.
Malfunctioning
Should any trouble occur, disconnect
the AC cord and refer servicing to
qualified personnel only.

deseado.
Con unidades de cinta convenciona-
les, el nivel de ruido inicial (siseo) sirve
como guia para el ajuste inicial del
volumen.
Las unidades de cinta
audiodigital, sin embargo, no tienen
practicamente ruido ni siseo, por lo
que existe la tendencia a ajustar el
volumen inicial demasiado alto.
Al
iniciarse la reproduccién
