TROUBLESHOOTING
GUIDE
If the system does not seem to operate as it should, after re-reading these operating instructions carefully, check the chart below:
Symptom
Power does not turn.on.
Causes
* The flat cables are not connected properly. "

Solutions
~ General
There is no sound.
¢ The power cord is not connected properly.
¢ Correct the connection.
« An incorrect FUNCTION select button is pressed.
¢
Press the FUNCTION
select button to select the
correct input.
¢
There is a bad connection between units.
¢ There is a short circuit in the speaker jack.
¢ The breaker has tripped because of a connection toa
low-impedance speaker.
Sound comes from only
| one speaker.
e A speaker is disconnected.
¢ The balance is off-center.
Tuner
| 2:
There is constant, wave-
like static.
« The antenna is not connected properly.
¢ Correct the connection.

Disconnect the power cord, correct
the condition,
including speaker connections, and connect the
power cord again.
¢ Correct the speaker connection.
¢ Turnthe BALANCE control knob tothe center position.
¢
Check the antenna connection.
¢ The station is not correctly tuned.
¢ Correct the tuning.
e The signal is too weak.
There is noise.
The sound is distorted.
¢ The system is picking outside noise.
¢
Install an outside antenna.
* Change the location or direction of the antenna.
* Turn the system to a different orientation.
*
Move the system away from other electrical
appliances, such as a TV, fluorescent lights, or
move the appliances.
¢
There is multipath distortion.
* Change the orientation of the antenna.
*
Replace the antenna with one that has the correct
orientation.
'Amplifier
The display is strange.
The CD function stored by
the Al FUNCTION is not
activated.
The tape does not play.
The sound is off-balance.
* The microprocessor has been electronically affected.
* The setting on the amplifier to receive the input signal
code from the CD player is incorrect.
* Deck 2 is paused.
*
Reset the microprocessor. Turn off the power with
the MEMORY button pressed down. (All stored
settings will be erased from the system.)
* Change the setting to properly receive the input
signal from the CD. First, turn off the power on the
amplifier. Then, with the CD function button
pressed down, turn it back on.
* Press fl PAUSE to release the pause.
* The head is dirty.
* Clean the head.
[ The high sounds are too
loud.
* The Dolby NR mode is set differently from when the
recording was done.
* Reset the Dolby NR.
ss
There are no high
frequencies.
* Atape recorded without Dolby NR is being played back
in the Dolby NR mode.
¢ Turn off the Dolby NR.
¢ The head is dirty.
Cassette
deck
There is no recording.
* The erasure
prevention tab on the tape has been
removed.
¢ There is an incorrect connection.
¢. The head is dirty.
* Clean the head.
* Cover the erasure prevention hole with cellophane .
tape.
¢ Gorrect the connection.
* Clean the head properly.
The tape is not erased.
* The erasure head is dirty.
