2 - GENERAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Location of the pump :
Place the pump as close to the pool as possible
and run the suction pipes as straight as possible to
reduce frictional losses. The suction pipes should
slope continuously upwards from the lowest point
of the line. Joints should be tight (but not stressed).
The diameter of the suction line should be equal to
or larger than that of the discharge line. Although
the pump is designed for outdoor use, it is strongly
recommended to protect the electrical circuit, the
shelter components from the weather. Choose a
well-ventilated place, which will not be flooded in
case of rain.
Do NOT install the pump in a damp or unventilated
area. Keep the motor clean.
Pump assembly :
Install the pump on a solid, level base or pedestal in
accordance with good engineering practice. Secure
the pump to the base or pedestal with screws or
bolts to further reduce vibration and stress on pipe
or hose joints. The base MUST be solid, level, rigid
and free from vibration.
The installation of the pump must comply with the
following points:
• The height of the pump inlet should be as close as
possible to the water level for underground pump
installations.
• Allow the use of a short and direct inlet pipe or
tube (to reduce frictional losses).
• Provide valves in the inlet and discharge pipes for
underground pump installations.
• Be protected from excessive moisture and
flooding.
• Provide adequate access for pump and plumbing
maintenance.
• The installation of union fittings in front of the
pump inlet and between the pump outlet and the
tank is highly recommended for in-ground pools.
It is recommended to use 60 cm of straight pipe
before and after the pump.
Dangerous pressure :
Pumps, filters and other equipment/components
of a pool filtration system operate under pressure.
Improperly
installed
and/or
equipment and/or components can fail and cause
injury and/or property damage.
Plumbing :
Use PTFE tape to seal threaded connections on
moulded plastic components. All plastic fittings must
be new or thoroughly cleaned before use.
NOTE - Do NOT use other products as they may
cause the plastic components to crack. When
applying PTFE tape to plastic threads, wrap the
entire threaded portion of the male fitting with one or
two layers of tape. Wrap the tape clockwise facing
the open end of the fitting, starting at the end of the
fitting. The suction and discharge ports of the pump
have moulded threaded stops. Do NOT attempt
to force the hose connection past this stop. It is
only necessary to tighten the fittings sufficiently to
prevent leaks. Tighten the fitting by hand, then use
a tool to engage the fitting an additional 1 turn. Be
careful when using PTFE tape as the friction is greatly
reduced; do NOT over tighten the fitting or you may
damage it. If leaks occur, remove the fitting, clean off
the old PTFE tape, re-wrap with an additional layer
or two of PTFE tape and reinstall the fitting. See the
Troubleshooting section for other solutions.
Fittings :
If your new pump replaces an older pump, it may
be necessary to find specialist plumbing fittings to
make the plumbing connections. Check with your
dealer to find what you need. Fittings restrict flow
for best efficiency, use as few fittings as possible
(but at least two suction inlets). Avoid fittings that
could cause an air trap. Use a non-trapping suction
connection in the pool (multiple drains) or a double
suction (skimmer and main drain).
