Cleaning the cutting tray
The cutting tray has a quick connector for the hose on its surface as part of the tray washing system
[Fig. 26]. Use it to wash grass clippings below the tray and prevent the build-up of corrosive products.
Take the following steps each time you mow your lawn:
1. Move the equipment to a level, clean location, close enough to reach a garden hose.
Make sure the exit baffle is directed away from houses, garages, cars, people, etc.
2. Attach the quick connector of the hose to the end of the garden hose.
3. With the engine off, connect the hose connector to the connector on the mower tray
surface.
4. Open the tap.
5. Start the mower engine.
6. Leave the blades on for at least two minutes to allow the bottom of the tray to be
intensely washed.
7. Turn off the engine.
8. Close the tap and disconnect the hose connection from the tray surface connector.
9. After cleaning the tray, start the engine and activate the blades for at least another two
minutes to allow the bottom of the tray to dry completely.
Storage
Follow the next steps to prepare your lawn mower for storage.
1. Clean and lubricate the joints of your equipment.
2. Put a thin layer of oil on the cutting blade to prevent rust.
3. Store the mower in a clean, dry location. Do not store near corrosive materials, such as fertilizers.
4. If the equipment will be idle for more than 30 days, empty the fuel tank completely.
Improper fuel storage can cause starting problems, inability to start the engine, engine failure and poor
performance.
When storing any type of equipment in a shed or metal container with poor ventilation,
some special care must be taken to prevent rust on the equipment. Put a layer of oil or
silicone on the equipment, especially the cables and all moving parts of your lawn mower
before storing.
Engine care
Below is a list of engine maintenance tasks that are necessary for the mower to perform well.
• The oil level must be maintained exactly according to the marking on the dipstick [Fig. 22, page 26].
• Clean the air filter as indicated in the manual. Clean every two to three hours if you are using your
lawn mower in extremely dusty areas. Poor engine performance usually indicates that it is time to
clean the air filter. See manual for air filter cleaning instructions [page 27].
• Clean the engine regularly with a cloth or brush. The top of the engine must always be clean to
allow proper air circulation. Remove all grass, dirt, debris and combustibles from the muffler area.
• Do not store the equipment with gasoline in the tank for more than 30 days. Engines stored with
gasoline for more than 30 days may deteriorate and form gum in the fuel system or in essential
parts of the carburetor.
