3 Initial Operation

INFORMATION
The E-MAG Active is to be used only with the 317B20 Battery. That battery was developed especially
for the E-MAG Active. Both receptacle and lock unit are designed to fit with the form of this battery.
INFORMATION
Before putting the E-MAG Active into operation, read the instructions for the 317B20 Battery and the
317L20 Battery Charger. Please pay special attention to the specified safety instructions.
This section will describe how the E-MAG Active can be activated/deactivated and how it can
be reactivated from the energy-saving mode. The section also explains how the electronic system
starts and which signals the system emits during activation.

3.1 Charging the Battery

INFORMATION
Once the batery is fully charged, the E-MAG Active can be used for about 5,000 steps (which corre-
sponds to about 5 km or 3.1 miles). Nevertheless, we recommend you to recharge the battery daily
(preferably at night).
INFORMATION
In daily use, the charging time depends on the remaining capacity and maintenance of the battery.
The charger can charge two batteries at the same time.
INFORMATION
The battery should always be removed when the orthosis is not in use.
INFORMATION
The LEDs on the charger must not be illuminated prior to inserting the battery. If they are illuminated,
please submit the charger to an authorised Ottobock Service Centre.
To do so, plug the battery charger into a power outlet and insert the battery into the charger
(Fig. 1). One full charging cycle takes between 8 to 10 hours.
Place the charged battery into its receptacle; it should snap easily into the holder (Fig. 2).
