Responsibilities of the crane driver

The crane operator must ensure that:
crane operation is halted if:
|
the load cannot be securely held and safely removed due to the
|
influence of the wind;
faults occur which compromise operational safety;
|
all emergency limit switches and brakes have been tested before
|
operating the crane;
only crane hooks which have a safety catch are used and that these
|
have been regularly tested;
crane cables or chains have been maintained and checked for damage;
|
crane cables or chains can support the tension load;
|
the crane has been securely set up;
|
the weight and centre of gravity have been determined before the load
|
is attached (rated capacity limiter must not be used as a balance);
the load is not picked up by retracting the boom after the rated
|
capacity limiter has been activated;
persons to give instructions have been posted if the crane driver does
|
not have a clear view of the load. predetermined hand signals or a radio
are used for communication between operator and instructor(s);
loads which have been attached by hand are not raised until a hand
|
signal is given;
long loads which may become caught on other objects during
|
transportation are controlled with guide cables;
loads are not allowed to tilt or swing backwards and forwards;
|
loads which are trapped are not pulled free by the crane;
|
no persons are carried together with the load or with the load lifting
|
gear;
the danger area of the crane is clearly identified;
|
loads are not left hanging on an unmanned crane;
|
that loads are not transported over the heads of other workers.

before the load is lifted, it is checked that the transport rails of the
|
device are undamaged and secure.
