The lever can be used to change gear positions. Pull the
bobbin thread up through the guide slot of the buttonhole
guide plate by turning the handwheel counterclockwise
while holding the needle thread. Place the bobbin and
needle threads to the left side of the guide plate. Leave 3"
to 4" (7.0 to 10.0 cm) of thread.
