Intended Use

Bench-mounted sanding machine with a rotating and height oscillating sanding drum. For
sanding curved and straight surfaces on intricate as well as larger workpieces. The 45° tilting
table adds additional edge sanding and chamfering.

Unpacking Your Tool

Carefully unpack and inspect your new sander. Familiarise yourself with all its features
and functions
Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing
or damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this tool

WARNING: Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or
changing any accessories, or making any adjustments.
Assembly
Fit the Sleeve & Drum Storage Unit (29) onto the mountings on the left side of the spindle
sander (Image C)
Fix the Table Insert & Washer Storage Unit (28) onto the right side of the spindle sander
(Image D) by securing the pins at the base into the main body and securing at the top with
the supplied clip

Bench Mounting
If the spindle sander is to be used in a permanent position, it is recommended that you secure
it to a rigid work surface.
Use the Bench Mounting Holes (8) in the base of the spindle sander as a template to mark
and drill four holes in your intended mounting surface (i.e. workbench). Secure the spindle
sander into position using large bolts, washers and nuts (not supplied)
If the spindle sander is intended to be more portable, fix a board to the base which can be
easily clamped and removed from various mounting surfaces
If using bolts make sure they are long enough to penetrate the workbench or board
sufficiently for a secure fix
Note: Use nylon insert lock nuts or spring washers in the fixings to prevent vibration from
loosening the fixings.
Note: Never use bolts that require force to push through the Bench Mounting Holes as these
may crack the plastic body as will over-tightening the fixings.
Note: If the spindle sander table is not level between the left and right side due to variations in
the workshop floor surface or work surface additional thin washers can be used to correct this
either on the left or right side of the fixings. Level variations between front and back can be
corrected using the tilt mechanism of the spindle sander.
Dust Extraction
It is recommended that the spindle sander is used with a dust extraction system for a cleaner
and safer work environment. This is especially important where the toxicity of the workpiece is
not known, i.e. older surface coatings including paint or unknown wood treatment solutions
1. Attach the hose from the dust extraction system to the Dust Port (21) and ensure it is
secure (Image F)
2. For greatest efficiency, activate the dust extraction system before turning on the spindle
sander
Selecting the right grade of sanding sleeve
Sanding sleeves are available in a variety of different grades: coarse (80 grit), medium
(150 grit) and fine (240 grit)
Use a coarse grit to sand down rough finishes, medium grit to smooth the work, and fine
grit to finish off
Always use good quality sanding sleeve to maximise the quality of the finished task
It is advisable to do a trial run on a scrap piece of material to determine the optimum
grades of sanding sleeve for a particular job. If there are still marks on your work after
sanding, try either going back to a coarser grade and sanding the marks out before
recommencing with the original choice of grit, or try using a new piece of sanding sleeve
to eliminate the unwanted marks before going on to a finer grit and finishing the job
Selecting a Table Insert
Failure to use the correct table insert with its matching sanding sleeve could result in pinched
fingers or the workpiece being pulled down between the table insert and the sanding sleeve.
The sanding sleeve should fit snugly into the central cut-out of the table insert
Only fit Tilting Table Inserts (27) when you are going to tilt the Table (12)
Use the 'Table Insert & Washer Size Chart' to help determine the correct table insert and
compression washer to use with each sanding sleeve.

Fitting a sanding sleeve
Note: All the sanding sleeves, except the smallest 14mm sanding sleeve, fit over a matching
Sanding Drum (25).
1. Select the correct Sanding Sleeve (24) for the intended job. Select the corresponding
Sanding Drum
2. Fit the Sanding Sleeve over the Sanding Drum (Image E) so there is no overlap either top or
bottom
3. Fit the correct Compression Washer (23) as per the chart over the spindle (Image A)
4. Fit the required size Table Insert either normal or tilting (26 or 27). Use the unlock symbol on
the table to line up the legs on the underside of the Table Insert with the indentations for the
insert mounting on the Table (12) and rotate the Table Insert clockwise to the lock position
symbol. Check the Table Insert is flush with the Table
5. Fit the Sanding Sleeve with drum over the spindle. Normal practice is to put the most worn
surface of the sanding sleeve to the top so that wear is even and to maximise use of the
sanding sleeves
