PROBLEM
The power does not come on.
"REGION CODE ERROR!" is shown on
the TV screen.
Operation is not possible.
[LOCK] is displayed on the display
window and the disc tray does not
open.
Picture is noisy.
Picture is distorted when using
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT or
S-VIDEO output jack(s).
No picture is displayed on the TV
screen or the screen is blurred or
divided into two parts.
DVD VIDEO disc playback sound level
is lower than TV broadcast sound level.
Analog audio output is distorted.
No sound comes out.
Files (tracks) are not played in the
recorded order.
WMA files cannot be played back.
No picture is played back, or the screen
turns black.
The preference display cannot be
turned on.
The KARAOKE function cannot be
turned on.
The musical key cannot be shifted.
The multichannel playback cannot be made.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Power plug is not inserted securely.
Region code of the inserted disc does not
match the player.
Microcomputer malfunction due to
lightning or static electricity.
Moisture condensation caused by a
sudden change of temperature or
humidity.
The disc does not allow the operation, or
an unplayable disc is inserted.
When you press 0 while pressing down 7
on the player in standby mode, the tray
lock function is activated.
The player is connected to a VCR directly
and the copyguard function is activated.
With some discs, the picture may be
blurred when [PICTURE SOURCE] is set
to [FILM] or [AUTO].
Both the component connection and
S-video connection are made.
The player is in the progressive scanning
mode though it is connected to a TV via
the VIDEO or S-VIDEO jack.
[D.RANGE CONTROL] preference is set
to other than [TV MODE].
[OUTPUT LEVEL] preference is set to
[STANDARD]
MP3/WMA disc is recorded with the
"packet writing (UDF format)."
The file is copy protected.
The file is recorded with a bit rate under 48 kbps.
Format of the files is not the baseline
JPEG.
An MP3/WMA disc is played back.
The KARAOKE function is turned on.
SOLUTION
Plug in securely.
Check the region code of the disc printed on the disc
jacket.
Turn off the power and unplug the power cord, then
connect the power cord again.
Turn off the power, then turn it on a few hours later.
Check and replace the disc (see page 33).
The disc tray cannot be opened or closed in this
status. To release this status, press 0 while pressing
down 7 on the player in standby mode.
Connect the player so that the picture signal flows
directly to the TV.
Set [PICTURE SOURCE] to [VIDEO (NORMAL)] or
[VIDEO (ACTIVE)].
Disconnect the unused one.
Set the 525i/525p/REMOTE selector on the rear
panel to "525i," or set it to "REMOTE" and make the
progressive scanning mode inactive by using the
PROGRESSIVE button (see page 10).
Set the [D.RANGE CONTROL] preference to [TV
MODE] (see page 59).
Set the [OUTPUT LEVEL] preference to [LOW] (see
page 59).
It cannot be played.
This player plays the files in the alphabetic order. So,
the playback order can vary.
The player cannot play copy protected files.
The player does not support such WMA files.
The unit supports only the baseline JPEG format.
You cannot turn on the preference display when a
JPEG disc is inserted.
You cannot turn on the KARAOKE function while
playing back an MP3/WMA disc.
You cannot shift the musical key when playing back
an Audio CD with DTS, or a DVD with DTS, MPEG
Multichannel or 96 kHz linear PCM.
Turn off the KARAOKE function.
