Commissioning of the instrument
6-pin connector
A 6-pin connector (18 96 119) and spare parts kit (83 26 496)
with ferrules and 2 wire pieces are provided for remote
applications.

junction box corresponds to the pins of the 6-pin connector.

5.2.1 Connecting the CatEx remote version
1. Open the instrument.
2. Remove push-in plug from the port for the sensor (9).
3. Route the cable of the sensing head or junction box
through the port for the sensor (9).
4. Strip cable insulation by 5 to 7 mm.
5. Connect ferrules to the cable braids.
When a 3-core cable is used:
A Refer to figure D1 on the fold-out page.
B Merge the pre-assembled wire pieces with the
corresponding field wires in a twin ferrule and crimp it.
When shielded cables are used:
A Strip shield by 45 mm.
B Twist the shield and connect a ferrule.
C Connect the shield to pin 1 of the sensor connector
(24)
6. Connect the cable to the sensor connector (24) as
indicated in figure D on the fold-out page and the wiring
table.
7. Plug the sensor connector (24) to the socket (28).
8. Close the instrument.

Commissioning of the instrument
1. Connect the power supply cable to a current source.
The instrument starts the warm-up phase.
The display shows that the sensor is ready for
measurement in hh:mm:ss (countdown).
2. Wait until the warm-up phase ends.
Depending on the installed sensor the warm-up phase can
take between 5 minutes and 12 hours. Settings can
already be made in the menu.

4. Perform test:
a. Check transmission of signal to the control unit.
b. Check triggering of integrated alarm devices.
c. The optionally connected external relays

Operation
The instrument is neither SIL-certified nor conform to HART
specifications. SIL and HART functions are therefore not
supported. However, SIL and HART symbols and functions
can appear in the display. No hardware or accessories for
HART operation is available.

status
The following display examples show PointGard 2100 EC.
For PointGard 2200 CAT gas names are not predefined. Gas
names can be entered. To enter gas names, contact Dräger.
