For Altair 5IR units with %volume IR sensors, the following gas levels
should not be exceeded when used for the daily Calibration Check:
• IR Butane 25% vol
• IR Propane 25% vol
• IR Methane 25% vol
• IR Butane 100% vol
• IR Propane 100% vol
• IR Methane 100% vol
1. Turn ON the ALTAIR 5 or ALTAIR 5 IR Multigas Detector
in clean, fresh air.
2. Verify that readings indicate no gas is present.
3. Attach regulator (supplied with calibration kit) to the cylinder.
4. Connect tubing (supplied with calibration kit) to the regulator.
5. Attach other end of tubing to the instrument.
6. Open the valve on the regulator, if so supplied.
• The reading of the ALTAIR 5 or ALTAIR 5 IR Multigas Detector
display should be within the limits stated on the calibration
cylinder or limits determined by your company.
• If necessary, change cylinder to introduce other calibration.
• If readings are not within these limits, the ALTAIR 5 Multigas
Detector requires recalibration (see Section 3.8).
If using the MSA GALAXY Test Stand for the Calibration (bump) check,
a check-mark appears on the ALTAIR 5 display for 24 hours following a
successful bump of all operational sensors.

3.8. Calibration

Span Calibration gases and Span Calibration values are shown in
Section 5.4, along with the appropriate MSA calibration
gas cylinder.
CSA requires (per 22.2 NO. 152) that the instrument's sensitivity be
tested before each day's use on a known concentration of methane
equivalent to 25 to 50% of full scale concentration. Accuracy must be
within 0 to +20% of actual. Correct accuracy by performing the
calibration procedure given in this manual.

- 20% Methane Cal Check gas.
