and check condition of top and bottom anchor points.
Should the equipment be re-sold outside the country for which it
is intended, the re-seller is required to provide the user and
maintenance manual in the language of the country in which the
equipment is to be used.
2 Presentation
The STOPCABLE lifeline is personal protective equipment (PPE)
against falls from a height, comprising a vertical anchor line in the
form of a cable. The apparatus consists of a fall arrest device
GB
device equipped with a connector that moves along the anchor
line to automatically block should it be activated by the fall of the
user.
3 Installation
A technical study of the lifeline's installation should be carried out
in advance, and recorded in a file for safekeeping by the mana-
ger of the lifeline. Such study should be conducted by an autho-
rised body. Tractel supplies an installation instructions manual
with every lifeline to the person installing, also to be kept by the
manager.

Please refer to page 54.
5 Use
The user should be directly linked to the fall arrest device
connector with the sternal or lateral ring found on his safety har-
ness (see harness user manual for use of fall arrest points).
The main stages of use include the coupling and uncoupling of
the user to the lifeline, as well as crossing the cable guides. How
to link up to the lifeline and to cross the intermediary cable gui-
des should be carefully explained to the user, followed by verifi-
cation as to whether he/she has fully understood the procedures.
The same applies for using the fall arrest device harness and, if
necessary, the protected passage to the zones to where the lad-
der gives access.
a) Coupling / Uncoupling:
Despite being part of the lifeline installation, the STOPCABLE fall
arrest device can be easily set up onto and removed from the
anchor line in accordance with the instructions shown on page
58. The M10 connector, which passes through the STOPCABLE
fall arrest device, is an integral part of the STOPCABLE fall arrest
device from which it should only be separated for the purpose of
connecting the energy absorber or directly, according to the
case, the safety harness's lateral or sternal ring.
WARNING: It is forbidden to use any other fall-prevention device
on the STOPCABLE anchor line than the proper STOPCABLE
model, as this may seriously endanger the life of the user.
b) Crossing the cable guides:
The crossing of the intermediary cable guides should be done as
shown on page 58.
The STOPCABLE lifeline should only be used for protection
against falls from height, and in no event as a means of suspen-
sion. It should only be used with PPE forming a fall arrest system
(EN363). A full fall prevention harness is the only user body
handling device acceptable for use in association with the
lifeline.
The STOPCABLE lifeline should never be used beyond the limits
10
indicated in this manual and the prior study.
A visual check of all of the lifeline installation and the associated
PPE should be carried out prior to each usage. In the event of a
doubt concerning safe use of the equipment or an anomaly or
damage observed or presumed on the installation, use of the
equipment should be stopped immediately until the problem has
been corrected by a qualified technician. The route protected by
the lifeline should be kept free of any obstacle.
The person in charge, owner or manager of the building on which
the STOPCABLE lifeline is being used, should set up a rescue
procedure for the user in the event that they suffer a fall at any
point along the lifeline, and for any other emergency, in such a
way as to evacuate the victim in circumstances compatible with
safeguarding their health.
The Labor Laws of some countries prescribe that "when perso-
nal protection equipment is used (against falls from height) a
worker must never be left alone in order that they can be rescued
in a timescale compatible with safeguarding their health". Tractel
recommends that all users comply with this prescription.
IMPORTANT: The user must not at any time find themselves dis-
connected from the STOPCABLE lifeline when they are in an
area containing a risk of a fall. As a result, they should only
access or disconnect from a life line at points provided for this
purpose and which have been laid out in order to enable initial
connection to be made in perfect safety. Work should be carried
out to reduce, as far as possible, the risk of a fall and the height
of a fall. Before each use, the technician should ensure that the
fall arrest system used is compatible with the vertical clearance
on the worksite and that the trajectory is free of any obstacles.
The vertical clearance must be at least 2 m under the user's foot.
The STOPCABLE lifeline must only be used within the tempera-
ture range of between –10°C and +50°C. The lifeline absorber is
no longer functional outside this temperature range.
The STOPCABLE lifeline has a service life of 10 years
6 Checks, inspections and maintenance
All vertical lifeline installations (PPE) must be thoroughly inspec-
ted for all parts before it is commissioned or returned to service
after disassembly or repair, and in all cases, should be inspected
once every 12 months. This inspection must be carried out by a
qualified technician to ensure that it satisfies the legal and safe-
ty standard requirements, and particularly those requirements of
standard EN 353-1 (Lifeline system secured at two ends) or EN
353-2 (Lifeline system weighted at its lower part). Tractel SAS
recommends calling up an authorised inspection body for the
purpose. Such examination shall be requested and due by the
user.
The inspection consists in ensuring that all parts of the system
are in good condition and properly preserved, and that all mar-
kings are clearly legible. This applies to end anchor points,
cables, intermediate parts, tensioner, tension indicator, energy
absorber, cable-clamp, connectors, and particularly, the fall
arrest device). The user's safety depends on maintaining the effi-
ciency and strength of the equipment. The lifeline and its com-
ponents must remain clean and free from harmful matter (paint,
building waste, rubble, etc.).
The lifeline and fall arrest device must be cleaned using soap
and clear water.
The equipment must be transported in such a way to ensure that
it will not be subjected to any damage due to shocks / dropping /
