GB
sign plate must be attached to each access to the
lifeline. If additional accesses are considered following

languages, depending on the case, the installer will
take care to lay out the sign plate in such a way as to
show the supervisor and the operator the side of the
plate with the indications in the local language.
The indications to be provided on this sign plate by
the installer must be listed in indelible marker or be
embossed and easily readable by the operator. Any
deteriorated plate must be replaced before further use.

8. Terms of service

8.1. General
Any operator of the travflex™ 2 lifeline should, before
commis sioning, ask the installer for a copy of the
mandatory prior study file. They must be aware of this
manual.
They shall ensure that the personal protective
equipment against falls from height (PPE) for use with
the travflex™ 2 lifeline are compliant with regulations
and standards, compatible with the installation and in
good working condition.
Any operator called upon to use the travflex™ 2 lifeline
must be physically fit to work at height and have
received prior training in its use in accordance with this
manual, with demonstration in non-risk conditions, in
combination with the associated PPE. The method of
connection and disconnection of the slide on the lifeline,
the failover of the lanyard connector on the slider for
use on one side or other of the line, as well as passing
the intermediate supports and bends must be explained
carefully, and understanding of this method by the
operator must be verified.
8.2. Recommendation for use
The travflex™ 2 lifeline must be used only for protection
against falls from a height, and in no case shall serve
as a means of suspension. It must be used only in
association with CE certified PPE and comply with
relevant regulations and standards. A full body fall
arrest harness is the only acceptable device on the
operator's body to be associated with the life line.
The travflex™ 2 lifeline should never be used beyond
its limits as per this manual and the preliminary study.
32
SAS can provide them on request.
®
A visual check of the entire installation of the lifeline, the
slider(s) and the associated PPE should be made before
each use. In case of anomaly or damage noted on the
installation, its use should be immediately stopped
until duly refurbished and handed over by a qualified
technician. The route to be under the protection of the
lifeline shall be kept clear of obstacles.
The supervisor of the travflex™ 2 lifeline must have a
rescue procedure set up for any operator who falls at
any point on the lifeline, or for any other emergency,
so as to evacuate in conditions that will ensure
preservation of health and safety. We recommend that
you equip each operator with a mobile phone with the
indication of the number to call in case of need.
The labour laws in some countries lay down that
"when making use of personal protection equipment
(against falls from height) a worker must never remain
alone, so that rescue can be achieved within a time
consistent with the preservation of his health". Tractel
SAS recommends that all operators comply with this
requirement.
"IMPORTANT": At no moment whatsoever, should
the operator must be disconnected from the travflex™
2 lifeline when located in an area with a risk of falling.
Consequently,
– The operator should only access or leave the lifeline
at the points provided for this purpose, constructed so
as to allow the initial connection in safely.
– Passing intermediate anchors and bend anchors
in turn should be done without manual intervention
by the operator on the slider by a slight pull on the
PPE. The travflex™ 2 lifeline and slider have been
designed to ensure optimal passing over intermediate
and bend anchors in all installation configurations
presented in section 6 of this manual.
– Apart from this operation, the operator must
disconnect from the lifeline at the access points
provided to this effect, when he wants to leave the
risk area.
8.3. Using the slider
8.3.1. General
Figures 25, 26, 27 pages 13, 14 and 15 describe
respectively the setting up of the EN 362 wire connector
of the PPE to the travsmart slider, the implementation of
the slide on the lifeline and the tipping of the connector
in the handle of the slide for the use of the lifeline on
one side or the other.
"IMPORTANT": The operator is fully liable for
any mounting of the slider not in accordance with the
procedure in this manual.
