• The rear derailleur is a component of
the drivetrain of the bicycle which shifts
the chain on the sprockets to obtain dif-
ferent final drive ratios between crankset
and wheel (the parts of the rear derailleur
are shown in Fig. 1).

Setting the rear derailleur when the bicycle is in motion may result in dangerous
