Use instructions for NIOSH-approved full facepieces
For Your Safety
It is absolutely mandatory that you read and understand these
instructions before you use the full facepiece and that you only use it
for the intended use (as described below). Failure to do so could lead
to sickness or death. If you have any questions concerning these
instructions or how to properly use the full facepiece, ask your super-
visor or call Dräger in the USA at 1-800-922-1737. In other countries,
please contact the respective Dräger subsidiary or your local dealer.
WARNING
You must read and understand these instructions for use before
you use the full facepiece; and you must strictly follow these
instructions.
Failure to do so could lead to sickness or death.
Supervisors have to ensure that in their field of responsibility all users
are familiar with these instructions for use and will use the full
facepiece in strict accordance with these instructions for use.
Description
The full facepieces of the Dräger X-plore 5500 series are part of
NIOSH approved respirators and protect the face and the eyes
against aggressive media.
They must only be used with filters and/or cartridges of the X-plore

series
to ensure trouble-free operation.

Operating temperature: –30
C to 60
higher temperature extremes are permitted with shorter exposure
times.
Spectacle kits are available for users who wear spectacles. A welding
shield is available for retrofitting full facepieces with metal visor
frame.
Intended Use
The full facepieces are only to be used for the purposes specified
herein. National regulations and applications must be observed.
NOTICE
Only use NIOSH approved respiratory apparatus!
Approvals
The facepieces in combination with canisters have been certified by
NIOSH in compliance with title 42, Code of Federal Regulations, Part
84. Only combinations that are approved by NIOSH may be used (see
Page 39).

Use
Requirements
—The ambient air must contain at least 19.5 Vol% oxygen.
For other countries, observe national regulations.
—Respirators must be used in accordance with a complete respira-
tory protection program including selection, training, fit-testing, and
fit-checking. Strictly follow all applicable government regulations
concerning the use of respirators (promulgated by the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration at 29 CFR, Part 1910.134).
—The type of pollutants must be known, choose corresponding respi-

ratory filters
. If the pollutants are unknown, these masks must not
be used.
—Two respiratory filters of the same type from a single package must
always be used.
Unventilated containers, cavities, channels etc. may not be entered
with the filter apparatus.
Filter apparatus may only be used when the ambient air is neither
dangerous to life nor health.
