UNDERSTANDING THE CUTTING SYSTEM
EN
WINDOWS
• The operator's enclosure windows must meet codes for impact resistance.
• If scratched or damaged the window glaze must be repaired.
• The UV protection of the window glaze will degrade over time. Equipment manufacturer should
be consulted for replacement requirements.
• Consult equipment manufacturer upon upgrades to ensure operational integrity remains intact.
CUTTING SYSTEM
The major components of the cutting system are the drive sprocket, the guide bar, and the saw chain loop with a chain
shot guard and chain catcher connected at the drive end of the cutting system (Illustration C.1).
• Operator must never run equipment if any of these parts are missing or damaged. For
additional information consult the equipment manufacturer.
CHAIN CATCHER
A chain catcher looks like a metal spool and is located approximately adjacent to the center of the drive sprocket.
The chain catcher is made to keep a chain that has left the bar groove contained in the saw box. The chain catcher's
spool shape contains a small inset to allow easy removal and installation of the saw chain loop (Illustration C.2).
CHAIN SHOT GUARD
The chain shot guard is an extension of the saw box that aids in reducing the risk of thrown chain or chain parts, in
the case of breakage. Mounted behind the drive sprocket it is designed to absorb most broken chain and reduce the
risk of parts ejecting (Illustration C.3).
