INSTRUCTIONS FOR DETERMINING THE CAUSE LEADING TO IRREGULARITIES IN THE
OPERATION OF LIGHT OIL BURNERS, AND THEIR ELIMINATION
TYPE OF IRREGULARITY
Defective fl ame with sparks
Flame badly shaped with smoke
and soot
Defective fl ame, pulsating or esca-
ping from the combustion stokeho-
le
Corrosion inside the boiler
Soot at the chimney exit
POSSIBLE CAUSE
1) Atomizing pressure too low
2) Excessive combustion air
3) Ineffi cient nozzle, either fouled or worn
out
4) Water in the fuel
1) Insuffi cient combustion air
2) Ineffi cient nozzle, either fouled or worn
out
3) Combustion chamber unsuitable or too
small
4) Delivery nozzle inadequate with respect
to the combustion chamber volume
5) Refractory lining unsuitable or excessive
6) Boiler or chimney ducts clogged
7) Low atomizing pressure
1) Excessive draught (only when there is an
aspirator in the chimney).
2) Ineffi cient nozzle, either dirty or worn
out.
3) Water in the fuel
4) Dirty disk
5) Excessive air combustion
6) Air passage between disk and head clo-
sed too much
1) Boiler operating temperature too low (be-
low dew point)
2) High sulphur content in the fuel
3) Smoke temperature too low (below 180°
C)
1) Excessive cooling (below 180 °C) of smo-
ke before exit, insuffi cient insulation for
an outside chimney or cold air infi ltration

REMEDY
1) Re-set it at the required rating
2) Reduce combustion air
3) Clean or replace it
4) Drain the fuel from the cistern using a pro-
per pump. (Never use the burner pump for
this job).
1) Increase combustion air
2) Clean it or replace it
3) Modify or reduce the nozzle delivery to suit
the combustion chamber or replace the
boiler
4) Increase nozzle delivery by replacing it
5) Modify it or make it lighter according to boi-
ler manufacturer's instructions
6) Clean them
7) Re-set at required value
1) Adjust the aspirator speed by modifying the
diameter of the pulleys
2) Clean it or replace it
3) Drain the cistern using a proper pump (ne-
ver use the burner pump for this job).
4) Clean it.
5) Reduce air combustion
6) Correct the position of the combustion head
regulation device
1) Increase operating temperature
2) Change the type of fuel
3) Increase the nozzle delivery by replacing it
1) Improve insulation and close any gaps that
can let cold air in
