ÖSSUR RIGID DRESSING (ORD)
The Össur Rigid Dressing (ORD) is designed to be used after Trans Tibial
amputation.
This document provides important information on the indications for
use, and handling of the device. This document is intended for a certified
prosthetist and the medical staff inside the hospital which is the user of
the device. The device may only be fitted by a person in the hospital, who
is trained on that product.

INDICATION FOR USE

Lower Limb amputations, for example due to:
– Trauma
– Vascular Disease
– Diabetes
– Cancer
– Congenital Defects
Trans Tibial amputation only

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR USE

The following level of lower limb amputation are contra indicated:
– Trans-pelvic
– Trans-femoral
– Knee disarticulation
– Ankle disarticulation
– Partial foot

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Össur Rigid Dressing (ORD) is designed to immobilize, protect and
control post-operative oedema in the transtibial residual limb
immediately following transtibial amputation surgery.
Immobilization and oedema control are achieved by providing a firm
dressing formed to match the volume and shape of the residual limb.
The immobilization will assist in prevention of contractures of the
transtibial residual limb by restricting knee flexion. Effectively
constraining and matching the volume of the residual limb will prevent
an increase in oedema following surgery. Containing the residual limb
provides protection from discomfort, caused by bed trauma and possible
falls during early rehabilitation.
The ORD is made out of soft and pliable material and can thus be
formed to the residual limb. The dressing is made rigid by creating
a vacuum in the internal chambers of the product, but the residual limb
itself is not subjected to any vacuum with the product. Hook and loop
straps are used to secure the dressing in its place and to prevent it from
opening.
The ORD allows inspection of the residual limb by the medical team
during early rehabilitation. Adjustability of the ORD and a choice of size,
provide an effective rehabilitation tool benefiting both patient and the
