3. Mould the distal shell closely to the distal end of the residual limb
(Figure 3).
4. One person holds the distal shell close to the residual limb while
another person folds up the posterior shell (Figure 4).
5. From here on it is important that one person shapes the distal end of
the ORD to the residual limb throughout the application process.
6. The anterior shell is now folded over the residual limb, overlapping
the posterior shell at the edges (Figure 5–6).
7. While one person keeps the distal part of the ORD in correct shape
the other person tightens the central strap.
The distal strap is then tightened and lastly the proximal strap
(Figure 7).
The ORD has now been placed and the residual limb and vacuum can
now be applied to set the shape. The proximal strap should be located
proximal to the knee of the patient.
SETTING THE SHAPE (APPLYING VACUUM)
1. Close the valve by turning it clockwise (Figure 8).
2. Insert the tube of the vacuum pump and ensure at all times to keep
the tube perpendicular to the valve and ORD surface (Figure 9).
3. Evacuate the air by pumping, the more vacuum pulled the stiffer the
dressing becomes (Figure 10–12).
4. When desired stiffness has been achieved the tube is removed and
valve cap applied for added security (Figure 12 I).
Note: After evacuating the ORD it is necessary to tighten the straps. Start
with the distal strap, then tighten the central one before finishing by
tightening the most proximal strap (Figure 13).
WOUND INSPECTION AND AIRING
1. The ORD should generally be opened once in the morning and once
in the evening and left open for 15–20 minutes to air the residual limb.
Increased air humidity and temperature may require more frequent
airing and exchange of the under cast padding. We do recommend to
open the ORD daily in the morning (e. g. 8 am) and in the evening (e.
g. 8 pm). If it is necessary you can also open it in between
(e. g. 2 pm) (Figure 14).
2. Loosen all straps, starting proximally (Figure 15).
3. Open Valve cap (Figure 16).
4. Open the ORD by raising the anterior shell and leave open for
15–20 minutes (Figure 17–18).
WARNING
When re-applying the ORD it is important that the dressing is fitted
correctly. Make sure to position the distal shell centrally on the distal end
of the residual limb. Close the anterior shell, and tighten the straps.
When the straps are in place the valve is opened for a couple of seconds.
This allows enough air to get in to soften the ORD slightly. The valve is
then closed and vacuum applied to set the ORD again. The ORD has now
adjusted to the residual limb.

STORAGE AND HANDLING

The ORD should be stored dry at room temperature in the original
packaging until used. Do not expose the ORD to excessive heat or direct
