INITIAL BRACE APPLICATION
1. Unfasten all straps and liners. Note: Brace comes installed with a 0°
extension stop and a 90° flexion stop. Refer to the Range of Motion
(ROM) adjustment section if change in ROM is required.
2. With the leg in full extension, place the brace on the leg and loosely
fasten the proximal thigh strap and upper thigh liner to help hold the
brace in place (Figure 2). Note: Brace comes installed with standard
thickness condyle pads. If change in condyle pad thickness is required,
refer to Condyle Pad Adjustment section.
3. Place hinge center slightly above (approximately ¾") the joint line so
the brace can properly seat itself (Figure 3). Note: Ensure that the
cable covers are on the outside of the brace and floating free of
obstruction. Check both sides of the brace.
4. Snugly fasten the distal anterior tibial strap by inserting it through the
slot in the lower subshell while holding the brace in place.
5. Position the tibial pad and shell over the tibia (Figure 4). If necessary,
exchange the installed tibial pad with the tibial hex pad; remove hex
pieces to reduce pressure on the wound site. (Figure 5).
6. While holding tibial pad and shell in place, fasten the proximal anterior
tibial strap by inserting it through the slot in the upright (Figure 6).
7. Snugly tighten the proximal thigh strap and tighten the upper
thigh liner.
8. Fasten the posterior calf strap through the posterior slot on the
upright to affix the hinge in its centered position at midline A/P
(Figure 7).
SETTING INITIAL TENSION
1. Two different shear knobs are included:
– White / three raised dots (standard load)
– Black / one raised dot (low load)
Note: The standard load (white/three raised dots) is based on a
review by Smith et al KSSTA 2013
2. With the patient's leg in full extension, place the desired shear knob in
the hole on the spool. Slowly turn the shear knob in the clockwise
direction until the shear knob breaks (Figure 8).
3. Discard the two pieces of the shear knob.
