Installation
Caution:
For general guidelines on system planning, design,
installation, commissioning, use and maintenance, refer to the
EN54:14 standard and local regulations.
Module installation
Disconnect the fire system power supply and install the module
in the protective housing provided.
Connect the loop cable shield wire to the earth screw.
The 24 V power supply for the module can be taken from the
loop or from an auxiliary power source.
If 10 or more KAL700 modules are connected to the loop an
auxiliary power source should be used.
Connection
The module connectors, DIP switch, and status LED are
shown in Figure 1:

Loop overloading
Always verify large installations using a loop load calculator to
confirm that enough power is available on the loop.
Note:
To avoid loop overloading when using loop-powered
devices, see the system installation and configuration
guidelines in the Loop Power and I/O Modules Application
Note. This document is available from your local distributor.
Power supply configuration
To set the module power supply, remove the unit cover and
configure jumpers JMP1 and JMP2.
Loop powered jumper
configuration.
WARNING:
Do not connect a 24 VDC auxiliary power supply
to the module if power is supplied by the loop.
Resistor configuration
Three resistors are provided to program the system (see
Figure 1, items 7, 8, 9), each corresponding to a different state:
•
270kΩ (standby)
•
100kΩ (alarm 1)
•
39kΩ (alarm 2)
The maximum tolerance range is 5%.
Addressing
Each module requires a numeric address between 128 and
252 for identification purposes. This is set using DIP switches
1-7. See the address table at the end of this document.

Status LED
The status LED is lit constantly during alarm.
Maintenance and testing
Basic maintenance consists of a yearly inspection. Do not
modify internal wiring or circuitry.
To test the module:
1.
Feed an input signal to the unit and check the activation
message is displayed in the control panel.
2.
If the status LED and control panel fail to indicate the test
all connections should be checked and the module
address verified.
