8.9 Problem solving

1. Solvent drain from between the seal and the aluminium beaker.
• Damaged gasket. Check that it looks flat not rippled, flexible and is well placed, and that it is solvent-related material.
• Differences of height between the aluminium beakers.
- Use beakers of similar height.
- Check that the top of the beaker is dirt free.
- Check that the top edge of the beaker is not deformed.
2. Negative fat determination
• Error in weighting of the aluminium beaker.
- Clean and dry the beakers before weighing them. Number the beakers before weighing them.
• Uneven heat distribution through the surface heater.
- Use the diagnostics menu to check that all probes and heating elements work.
• Faulty contact (heat transfer) between the beaker bottom and the heater.
- Check that the beaker does not have any dirt on the contact surface.
• Unequal solvent content
-
Check for solvent leakages.
-
Solvent contens should be 50ml at least, if necessary add solvent.
3. Solvent takes a long time in boiling.
• Uneven heating on the heater surface.
- Use the diagnostics menu to check that all probes and heating elements work.
4. The solvent produces foam over the top of the extraction cartridge.
• Sample with too much fat contents
- Reduce sample size
- The aluminium beakers have fat residue from previous tests.
- Sample with a high water content. Dry the sample for longer.
5. Insufficient fat quantity detected.
• Lack on the process design.
- Check sample preparation.
- Check times to drying, BOILING and RINSING.
- Choice the solvent and working temperature.
8.10 Error message on the display
ERROR 1:
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT GO UP
Causes:
Solid relay on power PCB, wiring, heater / temperature probes.
Action:
Error message on the display and disconnection to sleep status.
ERROR 2:
OVERTEMPERATURE ON A TEMPERATURE PROBE (> 15% average Tª)
Causes:
Solid relay on power PCB, heater/temperature probes, differences on solvent volume, beaker ausence.
Action:
Error message on the display.
ERROR 3:
DANGER OVERTEMPERATURE (>25% Tª set)
Causes:
Solid relay on power PCB, wiring, heater / temperature probes.
Action:
Error message on the display and disconnection to sleep status.
ERROR 4:
PROBE READING DOES NOT GO UP (Reading < 50ºC, with Tª avg > 70ºC)
Causes:
Heater / temperature probes.
Action:
Error message on the display and disconnection to sleep status.
ERROR 5:
TEMPERATURE GROWS TO LOW (< 80% set temperature after a few minutes)
Causes:
Heater / temperature probes.
Action:
Error message on the display.
ERROR 6:
IN STAND-BY STATUS, AVERAGE TEMPERATURE DOES NOT GO DOWN.
Causes:
Solid relay on power PCB, wiring
Action:
Error message on the display and disconnection to sleep status.
