First use
The silicone liners must be washed before using them for the first time (see section 3 Cleaning).
Warning: There should be no inflammation nor any other contraindications such as:
• exceedingly oozing sores
• skin grafts (mesh grafts)
• severe cardiac or renal disease
• septic phlebitis (inflammation of the venal system)
• AVK Doppler index below 0.7 in the non-amputated area
• sensory disturbances (e.g. diabetic neuropathy) that permit a max. size reduction of 0-1
• knee flexion contraction of >40 °
• third-degree burns
• fibrinous inflammation
If these contraindications exist, the TTm/TFm pop Line silicone liner cannot be used
SELECTING THE LINER SIZE
Measuring (Figure 1a)
Measure 4 cm above the end of the residual limb.
Check (Figure 1b)
Bony structures must be included in the measurement. If you do not find a bony structure, please measure more
than the 4 cm until you meet the appropriate structure. In the event of large soft tissue overhangs, e.g. in above-
knee amputations, the measurement must be correspondingly higher.
Circumference (Figure 1c)
The measuring tape must not cut into the skin! Reduce the circumference measurement for the lower leg by
approx. 0 - 1 size and for the upper leg by approx. 1 - 2 sizes (as tolerated by the patient). If the stump is very
piston-shaped, please bandage distally around the silicone liner under moderate tension to form the residual limb.
As a rule, standard oedema reduction with silicone liners can be started after 30 – 40 minutes.
The circumference measurement must be checked before each use and documented in an oedema reduction
protocol. The orthopaedic technician selects the size.
PUTTING ON THE ÖSSUR SILICONE LINER
Step 1 (Figure 2a)
Turn the silicone liner inside out and press the bottom integrated cup to form a flat surface.
Step 2 (Figure 2b)
Apply the silicone liner to the end of the residual limb without pressure (with the knee flexed to about 90°) and
slide it up to the knee without wrinkles.
Caution: Wound dressings must not be rolled down!
Step 3 (Figure 2c)
Flex the knee to about 10°- 30° and ease the silicone liner gently up over the knee.
Caution: Avoid all shearing forces when easing the silicone liner up the leg.
Step 4 (Figure 2d)
Smooth up the end of the liner without tension.
Caution: Please do not lift and pull the edge of the liner, as this will increase the tension at the edge of the liner and
on the underlying skin! This can lead to blisters, wheals or similar symptoms.
If wrinkles form when donning please repeat the procedure!
