Strap and pad length adjustments:
1.
If your straps and /or upper calf pads are too long, you may cut
them to the desired length. Cut the strap shorter on the opposite
end of the strap tab.
2.
Larger size upper calf pads have trim lines molded in for
convenience.
3.
The trimmable ends of the straps are folded with an internal
termination. This may be reversed to an external termination if
comfort dictates.
NOTE: Remember, straps should not restrict circulation or cause
cramping during use.
Condyle Pad Adjustment:
The brace comes with medium size pads attached. Pairs of thicker pads,
thinner pads, and condyle shims are included. The pads should lightly
touch the medial and lateral condyles of the knee in full extension.
Tibial Fit Adjustment:
Tibial wedges can be installed to fill any gaps around the tibia and
achieve the desired fit. To add a wedge, pull back the silicone liner and
place the proper wedge pad between the liner and subshell or frame.
Press the liner back into place.
CONTOURING:
It is possible to contour the frame to customize the fit if necessary.
Avoid contouring of frame around the threaded stud to prevent the stud
from spinning. For proper hinge function, also avoid contouring the
frame near the hinges.
MAINTENANCE
Shells, Liners and Straps:
Regular maintenance of your brace will increase the likelihood that the
brace will remain effective and comfortable. Before cleaning your brace,
note all location of brace parts so the components can be easily
re-attached.
Shell liners and brace pads are removable and should be hand washed
in cool water using a mild soap. Do not use detergent with bleach or
machine wash. Dirty liners (soap residue or salt produced by the body)
may cause skin irritation, so clean and rinse liners well. Air-dry the liners
only as heat will cause them to shrink.
The inside of your brace shells as well as the straps may collect residue.
Rinse with water and air-dry. As with any textile, your straps and liners
won't last forever. Body chemistry and frequency of use will dictate the
life of these components. Straps, liners, d-rings, and subshells must be
replaced to maintain brace performance.
Hinge:
For safety reasons, the hinges should only be disassembled by a health
care professional. The hinges should be checked regularly to ensure they
are free of foreign materials (ie. dirt or grass). You may clean dirt from
the hinges by running tap water through them. You may also use
compressed air to blow out sand or other debris.
You may use the brace in water and get the hinges wet, but rinse well if
used in salt water or chlorinated water. Air-dry the brace. A regular
service routine will ensure the hinges are in optimal working order.
