The electric machine must be covered with thermal insulation barriers to avoid the complete dispersion into the
environment of the heat produced; at the same time, when possible, doors must be opened in the top side of the
casing in order to allow the discharge of the removed humidity.
By inserting a thermometer on the active parts, make sure that the winding temperature does not exceed 100°C.
The recommended temperature for drying is 80...100°C.
5.4 Balancing
Unless otherwise specified the generators are balanced by the half tab located at the shaft end, as per IEC
60034-14.
5.5 Coupling
Accurately align the generator and the drive motor.
To put the generator into place, use the eyebolts located on the D side union and on the N side shield.
WARNING! Never loosen or remove the tie rods fastening the generator supports; should that be necessary,
please refer to Chapter 6.7.
Inaccurate alignment may result in vibrations and damages to bearings. It is necessary to check as well that the
torsional features of the generator and of the motor are compatible. To enable the compatibility check (care of
the customer), Marelli Motori can provide drawings of the rotors for torsional checks.
For single-support generators you also need to check all the dimensions of the flywheel and of its cover on the
main motor;
Also check the dimensions of the flange and of the generator joint.
In case of dual-support generators, to check the alignment use a thickness gauge to verify that the "S" distance
between the half-joints is the same along the whole circumference and check with a comparator the coaxiality
of the half-joint outer surfaces.
Fig. 5
Checks must be performed on 4 diametrically opposed points; the alignment errors must fall within the limits set
out by the joint manufacturer, and can be corrected by moving the supports to the side or by inserting some
spacers between the feet and the basement. After fixing the generator always repeat the alignment check.
Perform the vibration check on the generator once it has been installed into the unit, both in loadless
conditions and under load.

5.6 Electrical connection

The generators are normally equipped with 12 terminals (7 clamps).
The connection cables enter the terminal box on the right (as seen from the coupling side). On some models the
cable output may be located on the left or on the right, depending on the location of the voltage regulator. Both
series and parallel star connections are normally available: when switching the connection (from series star to
parallel star), however, you need to verify the connection of the voltage regulator (applicable diagrams).
