TIPS FOR USING ÖSSUR LINERS
Dear Customer,
We are glad that you have decided to purchase the Össur Liner, a high-quality product from the Össur company.
Please read the following tips for use carefully and pay attention to the instructions for care and safety in particular.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT
The Össur Liners were developed specifically to meet the needs and demands of users of prosthetic devices. Their
development, technology and function are of the highest quality and functionality. Össur Liners have a unique
combination of product properties that guarantee an indication-specific prosthetic treatment option. The Össur
Silicone Gel has a preventive and conditioning effect. New design features make for improved and physiologically
correct residual limb adhesion for user-friendly use. In combination with the specific product properties, the Össur
Liner provides reliable and satisfying prosthetic care.
Using the Össur Liner offers significant relief in using a prosthesis. The durable, textile covering and/or the unique
lubricating coating (depending on the liner model) guarantee that the Össur Liner will be easy to put on and take
off. While being worn, the Össur Liner has a congestion-relieving effect, improving the blood flow to the residual
limb, thereby making it firmer. In addition, Össur Silicone has protective and skin-conditioning properties. Scarring
on the residual limb becomes softer and flattens out over time. Due to the non-porous surface of the silicone and
its chemical properties, almost sterile cleaning is possible, assuming the care instructions are followed correctly.
The Össur Liner PROTECT has the unique combination of medical-grade oil and active ingredient and is therefore
suitable for the particularly high demands associated with skin problems and diabetic skin. Continuous release
of a skin care emulsion containing vitamin E leads to a definite improvement in the condition of the skin
within just three days.
USE OF THE ÖSSUR LINER
Cleaning
Before you use a new Össur Liner for the first time, wash and dry it CAREFULLY two or three times. This reduces
the high initial adhesion of the material which can result in skin reactions in those with very sensitive skin.
Putting on the Össur Liner
Turn the Össur Liner inside out (Figure 1) and hold the liner as illustrated (Figure 2). The flattest possible surface
should be formed (Figure 2). Then carefully place this surface on the end of the residual limb and push the Össur
Liner over the residual limb without forming wrinkles (Figure 3+4).
Because of the especially smooth lubricating properties of the Össur Liner, additional aids, such as sprays or
talcum powder, are no longer necessary (Figure 5). Be sure that the pin receptacle sits as close to the centre of the
residual limb as possible (Figure 6).
NOTE: Please do not tug ("lift") on the upper end of the liner since this will result in greater tension on the liner's
edge and the skin underneath it. This can result in blisters, welts and similar symptoms. If the liner has developed
wrinkles while being pulled on, please repeat the procedure.
Use in combination with Össur Liner Pads
If there are hollow spaces in the distal area of the Össur Liner, e.g. due to the contraction of scars in the residual
limb or short-term fluctuations in weight which are manifested in this area, they can be compensated for by using
Össur Liner Pads. Select the silicone pad that corresponds to the size of the Össur Liner and carefully insert it into
the inner cup before pulling on the liner (Figures 7 + 8). Let your orthopaedic technician show you exactly how to
do it to prevent improper or careless use that could lead to skin problems or even bruises.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CARE
• Please note that the silicone liner and the residual limb need to be washed every day with neutral soap. To do
so, turn the silicone liner inside out, clean this side thoroughly with neutral soap, rinse generously with cold
water and dry off the excess water using a lint-free cloth (Figure 9). Turn the silicone liner inside out again and
keep it on the liner stand provided with it (Figure 10).
• The outside of the liner can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
