Sensitivity setting
Sensor which it is not possible to set: The sensor is adjusted and ready for operation.
Refer to graphic to check the function. If the switching output fails to behave in accordance
with graphic, check application conditions. See section Fault diagnosis.
Sensor with potentiometer:
The sensitivity is adjusted with the potentiometer (type: 270°). Clockwise rotation: operat‐
ing reserve increased; counterclockwise rotation: operating reserve reduced. We recom‐
mend setting the potentiometer to "Maximum".
The sensor is adjusted and ready for operation.

Alarm output
The sensor (HSE18) features a pre-failure notification output ("Q2" in connection diagram
[B], if the alarm option is selected), which issues a notification if the signal strength of the
light being received is not sufficient. Possible causes: Sensor is contaminated, sensor is
out of alignment. In the good state: LOW (U
V). The LED indicator flashes in this case.
Health output: The sensor (HSE18) features a health status notification output ("Q2" in
connection diagram [B], if the health option is selected), which issues a notification if the
signal strength of the light being received is sufficient. Possible causes, if the signal
strength is not sufficient: Sensors are contaminated, sensors are out of alignment, or
cable is damaged. In the good state: HIGH (>+U
event of cable interruption: LOW (U
Time types: HSE18 with optional On-delay or Off-Delay adjustment: t0 = no time delay, t1 =
time delay when object is detected, t2 = time delay when no object is detected. The time
setting can be selected using the potentiometer according to A.
Timer stages can be set from 0 to 2 seconds.
Test input: The HSE18 sensor features a test input ("TE" or "Test" on the connection dia‐
gram [B]), which can be used to check that the sensor is functioning correctly: If female
cable connectors with LED indicators are used, you must ensure that the TE is assigned
accordingly.
There must be no object between the sender and receiver; activate the test input (see the
connection diagram [B], TE at 0 V). The send LED is shut down or the detection of an
object is simulated. Refer to Graphics C and G to check the function. If the switching output
fails to behave in accordance with Graphic C, check application conditions. See section
Fault diagnosis.
The Troubleshooting table indicates measures to be taken if the sensor stops working.
