Instructions for use
For patients and orthopaedic specialists
Dear Customers,
Thank you for the trust you have placed in us. You have
made a good choice with your purchase. We set oursel-
ves the aim and standard of ensuring the best possible
care of the foot with our shoes, in close cooperation
with our partners, doctors, health insurance compa-
nies and medical services. To find out more about our
products visit our website at:
www.schein.de
Before using our medical device, please read the
instructions for use carefully and pay attention to the
following advice, in particular the safety information:
1.Purpose/indication:
Surgical shoes:
• Impairment of mobility (walking) in the event of
damage to the skin and subcutaneous tissue in the
course of conservative or post-operative treatment of
wounds and ulcers lasting a few weeks or longer with
extensive, possibly padded dressings, the healing pro-
cess of which allows at least partial load on the foot
when walking. Suitable in the case of post-traumatic
care following forefoot fractures or bruises.
• In case of strong tendency of the feet to swell, e.g. as
a result of heart failure, lymphoedema or post-throm-
botic syndrome, when conventional ready-to-wear
shoes no longer fit.
• The post-op shoes are intended to enable and main-
tain appropriate capacity for walking.
Forefoot and hindfoot relief shoes:
• Moderate to severe damage to the foot during conserva-
tive or post-operative treatment (= early mobilisation).
• With diabetic foot ulcers, only if no full-contact plaster
or comparable orthosis is possible.
• Post-traumatic care after forefoot/hindfoot fractures
or bruises.
• With open wounds and ulcers, especially on the
forefoot/heel, e.g. as a result of arterial or venous
circulatory disorders or injuries.
• In case of painful swelling of the forefoot, e.g. due to
an acute attack of gout or acute bursitis.
• In case of painful, inflammatory diseases of the hind-
foot, e.g. acute heel spur symptoms or acute bursitis
at the base of the Achilles tendon.
2. Location/conditions of use:
• Make sure that you only move on firm surfaces.
• Protect your foot and, if relevant, your dressing from
dirt, impacts and moisture if you use the post-op shoe
outdoors. You can use an insert sheet for protection if
necessary. Discuss this with your orthopaedic (shoe)
specialist retailer if required.
Please note that there may be a risk of
slipping on moist or smooth ground, as well
as snow and ice. Special care must be taken
under such circumstances.

3. Application instructions:

• The dimensions of the shoe have been changed in the
affected area for the purpose of your treatment. Take
this into account, especially when climbing stairs or
stepping over obstacles.
• Be aware that you should wear a firm shoe with ap-
propriate height adjustment on your healthy foot.
• Undo and loosen the fasteners before putting on the
shoe. Put on the shoe and fasten them.
• These are medical devices that are only ever intended
for a single patient. Use by other persons is not
permitted.
• Always sit to put on your shoes.
• The wearing period and frequency of use will be
determined by your doctor.
• Note: in the case of Malum perforans as a result
of peripheral neuropathy or in arterial peripheral
circulatory disorders, the load-bearing capacity of
the rest of the foot is restricted, meaning that in such
cases additional relief through a lower-leg orthosis is
recommended.
Please take note of our instructions before each use
of the post-op shoes, and especially before the first
use
4. Safety tips and risks of use:
• Feel the inside of the shoes before each use and
remove any foreign objects.
• Never use the post-op shoes without a suitable
walking aid.
• Do not drive a vehicle yourself.
• Only wear the post-op shoes if there is no direct skin
contact. Wear them either with a dressing or with
appropriate protection for your foot and/or wound.
• If there are pressure points, pain or other negative
sensations, consult your doctor or the service provider
immediately.
• To avoid pressure points and circulatory disorders, do
not fasten the shoe too tightly. Check the fastening
and adjust it if necessary. If the fastening is too loose,
this leads to shifting within the shoe, which must also
be avoided.
• Shoes fastened too loosely can lead to falls or pres-
sure points due to shifting.
• You should check your feet daily for redness and
pressure points.
• Due to the soft shaft material, the shoe has less
support against shear force than solid leather shoes,
meaning that ankle twisting on pavement or dirt
tracks is possible.
• The dressing can lead to incorrect sizing; in the worst
case this can lead to pressure points.
• Incorrect usage could put strain on the area where it
is supposed to be reduced.
Important note:
In case of problems with your feet or shoes,
please contact your doctor or service provi-
der immediately.
