meticulously the procedure
indicated above.
Valve Clearance Adjustment
The valve clearance adjustment
must be performed with a cold
engine (i.e. ambient temperature).
Verify that the engine is at top
dead centre of the compression

and the camshafts are oriented
as in

2, check and/or adjust
the valve clearances. The correct
valve clearances are indicated in
the "Assembly Data" section.
To check that the piston is truly
at TDC, verify that the intake

as illustrated in

2. A feeler
gauge is needed to measure the
valve clearances.
• Measure the valve clearances
for cylinder No. 1
• Rotate the engine 360°.
• Measure the valve clearances
for cylinder No. 2
• Calculate the difference
between the measured
1,
clearance and the clearance
indicated in the "Assembly
Data" section.
Example
• Indicated valve clearance =
0.15-0.22 mm
• Measured valve clearance =
0.30 mm
and
• 0.30 mm – 0.22 mm = 0.08 mm
• The valve shim size is stamped
on the side that contacts the
shim bucket in hundredths
of mm.
Example
• If the size is "155", then the
