1. Check that the voltage stated on the type plate of the power supply unit (4) corresponds to the
voltage to be used.
2. Attach the clamp holders (6) in the required position using the screws provided. To ensure the best
possible ventilation, we recommend installing the appliance vertically or horizontally with the hose
connection nozzles uppermost.
3. Select the appropriate hose connection nozzles (7, 8), (only applies to 9 – 36W). If necessary, saw
off the variable nozzles to the required diameter. Fit the nozzles, tightening only by hand, do not use
any tools! Grease the washers with Vaseline if necessary. Check that the washers are a tight fit,
particularly when fitting the union nuts (9) on the 9 – 36 W models.
4. Unscrew the casing lid (3) and fit the UV-C lamp (5) provided in the lamp holder. Do not handle the
glass of the lamp. For the 18 and 36 W models, place the rubber bearing provided (5 A) on the end
of the lamp. Make a visual check of the quartz glass insert (2) for damage. Screw the lid onto the
casing, tightening by hand.
5. Press the casing (1) into the clamp holders (6) and close them.
6. Push the hoses onto the nozzles and secure with hose clips. Put the pump or filter into operation
and check that the appliance is watertight.
7. Connect the appliance to the mains. If the appliance is operating correctly, blue radiation from the
lamp should be visible through the transparent, UV-C-resistant hose connection nozzles. If not,
check the plug connections and the positioning of the lamp in the holder.
Please note: The power supply units (ballast) are splash-proof, but not watertight. When installed for a
pond, care must be taken that the connection is sufficiently protected against splashes of water.
Note on operating check:
For your own safety, a safety switch is fitted in the casing lid (3), which only allows the UV-C lamp to
operate when the casing lid is closed. Never attempt to check the operation of the lamp by switching
the safety switch with the casing lid open. This may result in damage to the eyes and skin.
C Maintenance /dismantling:
Always disconnect the plug from the mains before carrying out any work on the appliance!
Deposits (dirt, limescale etc.) on the quartz insert glass inside the appliance prevent the appliance
operating as efficiently as possible. Therefore the appliance should be cleaned inside about twice a year
(more frequently if performance significantly deteriorates). The special UV-C lamp should be exchanged
once a year or after approx. 6000 operating hours.
Procedure:
1. Loosen the hoses and let the water run out of the appliance.
2. Open the clamp holders (6) and carefully remove the appliance.
3. Unscrew the casing lid (3) with the lamp (5) and replace the lamp, if necessary. In the case of the
18 and 36 W models, take care not to lose the rubber bearing (5 A) for the end of the lamp and
check that it is put back correctly in place on the new lamp.
4. Carefully remove the quartz insert (2) with the holder. To do so, place a coin or similar object in one
of the slits visible on the end of the casing thread and carefully lever off. A screwdriver with a broad
blade is also suitable.
5. Carefully clean the casing (1) and quartz glass insert (2) with water and a soft cloth. Limescale
deposits can be easily removed after soaking for a short time in JBL BioClean A.
6. Re-assemble in reverse order. Check that the O-rings (1 A and 2 A) fit correctly and, in the 18 and
36 W models, the rubber bearer for the quartz glass insert (1 B). Grease the O-rings with a little
Vaseline if required.
