2.3
INSTALLING THE WINCH OR SRD: Figure 3 illustrates installation of a Winch or Self-Retracting Device with Retrieval
(SRD-R) on the M100 and M200 Jib Systems. The Winch Mount in the Rescue Kit readily mounts DBI-SALA or Protecta
Winches or SRD-R equipped with a Winch Mount Mating Bracket. Install the Winch or SRD on the Jib Rail FAS as follows:
1.
Secure the Winch/SRD-R Mating Bracket on the Winch Mount: Position the notches in the Wind/SRD Mating
Bracket over the rod ends protruding from the Winch Mount and then pivot the Winch/SRD toward the Jib Mast until the
holes in the Mating Bracket align with the holes in the Winch Mount. Insert the Mounting pin through the holes in the
Mating Bracket and Winch Mount.
2.
Route the Winch/SRD-R Lifeline through the Upright Rescue Bracket and Rail Mount/Arm Clamp: Pull the
Lifeline Cable up through the Upright Bracket (A) and Rail Bracket (B), making sure that the cable is resting on the
rollers of the Brackets.
3.0
USE
;
Never exceed the Capacity maximums specified in Table 1. Exceeding the stated capacity could collapse or tip the system,
resulting in serious injury or death.
3.1
BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Fall Protection system meet all criteria defined in these instructions.
Verify that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the system per the 'User' inspection points defined in the "Inspection
and Maintenance Log" (Table 2). If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if there is any doubt about its
condition for safe use, remove the system from service immediately. Clearly tag the system "DO NOT USE". See Section 4
for more information.
3.2
FALL ARREST CONNECTIONS: Figure 4 illustrates application of a Jib System equipped with the Rescue Kit and its Fall
Arrest Connections. The Jib System must always be used with a Full Body Harness and Fall Arrest subsystem:
1.
The Self-Retracting Device (SRD) on the Rail is used as the Fall Arrest subsystem. Connect the SRD Lifeline to the
Back Dorsal D-Ring on the Full Body Harness.
2.
Connect the Winch or SRD-R Lifeline to the Harness Sternal D-Ring, Harness Frontal D-Ring, or the designated lifting
connection point on a Seat Sling, Workseat, Bosun Chair, etc.
3.3
SAFE WORKING AREA: The user must stay within the Safe Working Area (A) of the Jib Boom and must not pass the end
of the rail (B). The user must remain as directly below the Connection Eye as possible. See Figure 4 for reference. See the
instruction manual for the M100 Jib Boom (5908371) or M200 Jib Boom (5908372) for more information.
4.0
INSPECTION
;
After equipment has been removed from service, it may not be returned to service until a Competent Person confirmed in
writing it is acceptable to do so.
4.1
INSPECTION FREQUENCY: The product shall be inspected before each use by the user and, additionally, by a Competent
Person other than the user at intervals of no longer than one year. A higher frequency of equipment use and harsher
conditions may require increasing the frequency of Competent Person inspections. The frequency of these inspections should
be determined by the Competent Person per the specific conditions of the worksite.
4.2
INSPECTION PROCEDURES: Inspect this product per the procedures listed in the "Inspection and Maintenance Log".
Documentation of each inspection should be maintained by the owner of this equipment. An inspection and maintenance
log should be placed near the product or be otherwise easily accessible to users. It is recommended that the product is
marked with the date of next or last inspection.
4.3
DEFECTS: If the Rescue Kit cannot be returned to service because of an existing defect or unsafe condition, then either
destroy the system or contact 3M or a 3M-authorized service center about possible repair.
4.4
PRODUCT LIFE: The functional life of the Rescue Kit is determined by work conditions and maintenance. As long as the
product passes inspection criteria, it may remain in service.
5.0
MAINTENANCE, SERVICE, and STORAGE
;
Equipment that is in need of maintenance or scheduled for maintenance should be tagged "DO NOT USE". These
equipment tags should not be removed until maintenance is performed.
5.1
CLEANING: Periodically clean the metal components of the Rescue Kit with a soft brush, warm water, and a mild soap
solution. Ensure parts are thoroughly rinsed with clean water.
5.2
SERVICE: Only 3M or parties authorized in writing by 3M may make repairs to this equipment.
5.3
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT: If applicable, store the Rescue Kit and associated Fall Protection equipment in a cool, dry,
clean environment out of direct sunlight. Equipment may be transported only when it is not in use. Avoid areas where
chemical vapors may exist. Thoroughly inspect components after extended storage.
