5.2 Hydraulic Connections

The following general guidelines will be helpful in determining if
you have properly connected your hydraulic circuit:
• Be sure all hoses and fi ttings are connected to the proper inlet
and outlet ports of the pump and cylinders.
• Be sure all hydraulic connections, hoses, fi ttings, and couplers
are of the proper pressure rating and are fully tightened.
• Do not over-tighten connections. Connections need only be
snug and leak free.
• If NPTF connections are used, a high grade sealer should be
used on the pipe threads. If using Tefl on tape, use 1-½ wraps of
tape, leaving the fi rst complete thread free of tape to ensure that
pieces do not break off and enter the system, causing damage.
6.0 ACCUMULATOR RECHARGING
Accumulators
are
shipped
accumulators can be accomplished with or without the
accumulator installed in the system. When charging an
accumulator installed in a system, all hoses and fi ttings should
be inspected to ensure that no leaks exist.
WARNING: When charging an accumulator not
installed in a system, the hydraulic port should have
fi ttings and plugs removed, and should be directed
away from people and equipment, as any residual fl uids may be
expelled from the accumulator at a high rate of speed.
6.1 Equipment Required:
1.
Nitrogen tank with gauges and hoses.
2.
Enerpac charging tool WAT-2A.
6.2 Conditions Required:
1.
Hydraulic pump turned "off ".
2.
The shut-off valve between the accumulator and the
hydraulid cystem must be open and the entire hydraulic
circuit depressurized.

6.3 Assembly and Installation of WAT-2A Charging Tool
The WAT-2A charging tool includes adaptors for both previous
and current versions of the ACL series accumulators. Older ACL
models are equipped with a V10N charging valve and can be
identifi ed by a threaded plug located in the valve opening. Current
ACL models (model numbers ending in "A") are equipped with a
P1620 charging valve and can be identifi ed by a removable valve
cap and lanyard chain.
Models ACL21, ACL22, ACL201, ACL202 and ACL502:
Install the WAT-2A charging tool on the accumulator as described
in the following steps. Refer to fi gures 1 and 2.
1.
Assemble coupler (K) and copper washer (L) to pressure
gauge (G). Connect these components to the charging tool
at quick disconnect connector (H).
2.
Screw the 5/8-18 UNF adaptor (J) onto the charging tool at
of
the threaded collar connection (E).
3.
Turn the hand knob (B) at the top of the charging tool
counterclockwise until it stops.
4.
Turn the bleeder valve (C) on the side of the charging tool
clockwise until it stops.
WARNING: Failure to follow steps 3 and 4 will result in
nitrogen gas leakage as charging tool and adaptor are
installed on the accumulator. Serious personal injury
could result.
5.
Remove the plug (I) from the V10N charging valve on the
accumulator.
6.
Screw the assembled charging tool and adaptor (J) onto the
V10N charging valve as a single unit. Turn until tight.
7.
Perform accumulator charging procedures as described in
Section 6.4.
