individual situation, goals and current muscle
strength. Your clinician will advise a schedule
based on your individual situation.
For example, to increase muscle strength, a
3-5-30 schedule where you perform the exercises
3 times daily, using 5 sets of 30 repetitions
separated by one minute rest between each
set can be used.
To maintain muscle strength (for example
during (chemo)radiotherapy), a less intensive
2-4-10 schedule where you perform the exercise
2 times per day, doing 4 sets of 10 repetitions
can be used.
In many cases, these exercises are combined
with passive stretching exercises as described
in the TheraBite instructions for use.
NOTE: Mild fatigue may be experienced in
the early stages of exercise, but you should not
experience excessive fatigue. Excessive fatigue
may be due exercising too long or with a too
high resistance. Take a break from exercising if
you experience excessive fatigue. If necessary,
contact your clinician.
Too long exercise at too high resistance or
too large mouth opening can also lead to pain
in the joint. If this occurs reduce the quantity
of exercises, resistance and/or mouth opening.
If necessary, contact your clinician.
Start at a resistance where you can easily do
30 repetitions, and then gradually increase
the resistance, following the guidance of your
clinician.
Your minimum exercise plan: The resistance
at which you can comfortably carry out your
prescribed exercise routine.
Your maximum exercise plan: The maximum
resistance at which you can perform the same
sets of exercises.
2.3 Use of Exercise Log
Use the Exercise Log to document and monitor
your progress. The columns in the log are for
the following data:
A: Date
B: Resistance
C: Frequency of exercise / day
D: Number of sets
E: Number of repetitions
The resistance (B above) on the load scale
goes from 1 to 6.
